And I'm running it off the internal drive on a laptop, to boot. Let's just say I had to restart Logic to bounce the mix. It's saving grace is that it's at 44.1. There's enough instances of Decapitator to bring at least one CPU core to a screeching halt. It's on all busses, almost all tracks have G Channel...

Re: MoChang mixing project. Fancy giving it a mix?
Thanqs! I plan on finishing this in my spare time; the difficult part is lining everything up. If I really want to go nuts, I'll probably replace the toms, to be honest, or at least layer them up with another sample, reamp the bass through a real rig, and generally get the thing sounding as gigantor as possible whilst still having clarity and separation. The sources already sound good, so there's nothing to fix. I like the tone of the snare once it's been clobbered, but I think in the mix it could punch more; I'll probably blend in an uncompressed track under it. Vocals are a work in progress. Probably gonna be a lot of automation on those, but that's typical. I'm assuming the guitars are the ? The guitarist in my metal band got the new firmware update, which adds the power section modeling from the II, and he says- and he's not one to exaggerate- it's like buying a whole new amp. Also, he had to re-dial in all his tones. To the peanut gallery- this is what you can do with plain old EZDrummer.

Re: MoChang mixing project. Fancy giving it a mix?
Coming along nicely. I won't try to mix it myself, as i would probably just 'accidentally' lose the clean vox... I like the rest of it though, nice guitars and drums, and i like the way you have got the parts stuck together. Doesn't really play like an almost six-minute tune(meant as a good thing, coming from someone with as short an attention span as myself).

Re: MoChang mixing project. Fancy giving it a mix?
Snaxo's version is fucking filthy, eh? Drums are wildly crunchy. I also dig the vocal treatments there, high drama(i.e. fittingly, for the epic rawx).

Actually starting to work on this again now that I have the Hackintosh up and running. I'll see what I can make it do. I got Waves Eddie Kramer Master Tape and put it on every channel, Waves SSL G Channel on everything...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13184331/MCTest4.mp3I know there's bits I genuinely need to go back and fix (like the filter sweep before the end) and I'm not sure if it rocks or sucks as a whole; I keep tinkering with it and think I may have gone too far.

Mega glue going on here. I think the whole thing's a touch dark though... and the guitars are a little 3k heavy for my tastes.

Re: MoChang mixing project. Fancy giving it a mix?
The snare wound up pretty dark, and having the bass high up in the mix doesn't brighten it up overall, that's for sure. Striking a balance between the guitars and synth was kinda tough; the guitars were actually getting lost at points behind everything else! I probably did bring the upper mids up a fair bit just to make 'em cut, and pulled the synths back some. I kinda erred on the side of sheer mass here. Kick, snare and toms I buffed up liberally with my own samples. Bass got duplicated, one track went to SVX, the other went to a modeled 808 for dirt and IIRC Waves LA-2A for additional punishment, with both bussed down to a group and mono-ed. (Logic defaults to stereo groups; I'll swear there was a subtle difference- tighter, somehow.) Lotsa panning stuff going on with the vocals, a lot of it subtle, and a fair bit of distortion as well, some subtle, some really blatant. A bunch of automation on the reverb send, too. Guitars got hit pretty hard with Decapitator on the E setting, which wound up really obviously un-smooth on its own, but evens out in the mix. Adds a nice je ne sais quoi. I used Space Designer, the impulse 'verb in Logic Pro, for some room sound on there.
