Lie to me. I'll promise you...

Starting on a preproduction demo for something Garda has been playing live for a good while now. The real version (with vocals and awesome bass groove) goes over startlingly well. People comment on it and cheer at the whammied open E of "The Cowboy Song" (it only has a working title, and audiences don't know how totally daft it is, or that it's a reference to a Maps thread, so that's what they call it)

It's a fucked-up little synthpop tune. I didn't get through all of it tonight, but I got up to the first bridge. It's fairly long for a Garda tune; I think the whole thing's over five minutes. But I need to throw a prepro demo together in the next couple weeks, so here's the beginning thereof.

I also have no clue how the actual drums go, as I do not have a drive with a live or rehearsal recording of this on me at the moment.

'S a late-night home demo; I'm trying to fake the keyboard sounds we really use, Pod guitars, and all that hoo-ha.

After finding a pretty shoddy sounding recording of this kicking about... Ken The :cop: 's bassline on this still has got the funk. The drums are odd, doing for much of it a 1...2...3...SNARE! thing (isn't this an old Krautrock thing?), very mechanical sounding, with a fair bit of tambourine. Something's up 'cause the only lines of the vocals I can make out are the first four, which are the only ones I actually know. I suppose I should actually look at the written lyrics before working on my backing vox.

And I screwed up one of the keyboard lines, as stupid simple as it is. Meh. I'll call it a "production decision" and hope they like it.

I like it. The electronicsy bass sound works surprisingly well with the bright twangy guitar.

I can dig it.

I added some bass, as opposed to trout, which isn't nearly as sonically impressive. Call it a Foulmouth Bass if you want to reference Ren And Stimpy.

I did take the odd liberty with the bass line, but nothing too egregious. Needs more done, but alas, IRL intervened, as it's wont to do.

This is pretty sick. Dig the reverby guitars. :nods:

oh this is superswell. booty shakalicious. This one goes on the ipod as well...

hmmm, at some of the acoustic gigs we provide the music between sets, I'm thinking to add some mapematicians recordings, some would work very well. Of course I will ask permission from you folks first.
