Post Slapped this together for an animation my wife is making
http://soundcloud.com/devin-currie/barb ... soundtrack

Instruments drop in and out sort of randomly out of context with the animation, but it makes sense with the visuals and voice overs. Done entirely with these VSTs:

Tapeworm synthesizer
- Dasample Glaceverb (medium sized room)
- ReaEQ
- ReaFIR (as a compressor)
KiTR Rubber Band Guitar synth
- LeCab with those fancy impulses Snaxie posted
- Imperfection Lo-Fi filter (about half-quality)
- Dasample Glaceverb (small squishy room)
- ReaEQ
- ReaFIR (as a compressor)
Shekr synth (emulating some beads in a plastic cup)
- Imperfection Lo-Fi Filter
- ReaEQ
- ReaFIR (as a compressor)
SD2 NY Avatar kit
- A modified Parallel Bus compression setup
- Very subtle ReaEQ
- ReaFIR (as a compressor) on most of the kit

Master got a T-Sledge for the mastering.

Thank ye. She wanted a cutesy Architecture in Helsinki vibe, I think I nailed it.

I'm not familiar with that vibe but what you did is sparse but effective, so me likey. Especially the SD2 being subtle instead of bashing rock beats like usual.

I was shooting for a more subtle:

I originally used a old school drum machine VST for the drums, more clicky-beeby, but I ended up digging a more roomy acoustic sound. Plus, SD2 is just so damn versatile it is hard not to use it. Once you start messing with the velocities it becomes really natural sounding.

SD2 is awesome. Once you really spend some time with it, you recognize all the Internet Warriors on the forums who just pull up a preset, slap a shitty compressor across it and call that a drum track. And that's without the expansions- get Twisted Kit, Electronic and Claustrophobic (those'll all work in EZDrummer too) and you have a world of sounds at your disposal.

The one thing BFD used to have on it was Joe Barresi's Evil Drums, but you can get that as an SDX expansion now too, one of the only 3rd-party ones. A friend of mine has fooled me with that a few times, my thinking it's him pounding his Ludwigs. Great heavy rock drum sounds.

SD2 and anything that allows you to roll yer own samples, and you can conquer the programmed percussion world.

I am picking up a few expansions, pretty pumped for it. Making this little diddy reminded me how easy it is to slap together a decent drum track, which I have been neglecting. I really want to get back into recording shit again.

I really need to setup my guitars though. The intonation is off on the strat so trying to record it next to the synths is bringing up some awful issues.
