Re: Where you usedta is? Word.
A very random smattering of early failures:
1. 2002, January 3rd, after the final dissolution of my last proper band, i decided to attempt to record as a one man band, but i was at the time totally against planning anything too much, so i decided to do it without writing any songs first. Once long ago i poasted an extended drum&guitar clusterfuck from this era, this one is considerably less clusterfucky than that was:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... D=11357441Guitar was probably my Jackson JJ1, amp was definitely a borrowed JCM900 into a Crate 4x12 with the worst speakers ever(i still use one of them with my practice amp). Drums were two mic'd probably dynamic radioshack above, and radioshack PZM in the kick. Everything recorded into ye olde Tascam 414MKII. IIRC, i ripped the drums into the computer
and then re-ripped them as one track BACK into the fourtrack, then put the two guitars and bass in the remaining slots.
Also, as one can fairly easily tell on hearing it, back then in the old days when i mixed it into digital form on the computer, i had a pirated copy of Waves Ultramaximizer all up in this. [The waveform for this is completely blacked solid on the right channel
]
2. 1998, don't know what day/month, the original was destroyed in a HDD crash, this digital copy is newer. This was one of my first attempts(and failures - a recurring theme, no?) at making electronic sounds. At the time i was obsessed with dance music that could not be danced to. Which is like, obviously a genius concept... and worked as well as any
thinking person would have assumed from the very beginning.
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... D=11357446I don't even remember what the noises were made by, i was really into misusing electrosound stuff back then though, so it was probably something that was not meant to be a synth at all.
3. 1995. This is one of the oldest things that i recorded that i still have. It was another conceptual thing(i was sooo into conceptual things in my yout) but i won't even try to explain what i meant to accomplish with it, because it didn't work(surprise). I recorded a lot in this style, reverby guitars sort of playing off each other and skirting chaos(when they didn't drop into it). I didn't know enough about too many things for it to have worked right, and now that i know enough to do it right, i think it is stupid, so i won't.
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... D=11357444This was all recorded via my Charvette(first guitar) into my Crate G-212(first amp) into my Tascam 414MkII(first recorder), late at night while the rest of my family tried to sleep. One of the recordings actually has my dad, pissed as hell hissing something about having to work in the morning and would i PLEASE shut the fuck up with the guitar.
I am indeed sorry, dad.
