Or does it sound like i meant them to sound this way?

Also, in your opinion, SHOULD i have meant them to sound that way? Or is it silly? :red:

I think someone who knows what is up and would know you are doing it for effect, and an awkward one at that, would probably get it. It is interesting, adds some mood to the thing. I think it works.

But someone who didn't know what was up would assume that i couldn't play the guitar parts in time, right?

Yeah, probably.

But people are stupid and think a lot of things about music that are just straight up wrong. A lot of people think that death metal does not possess any "beat", whatever the fuck that means, I have had this conversation a few times. So I wouldn't put much concern into that.

Chris, you'll probably hate my saying this, but it reminds me a bit of Opeth. The feel of it actually reminds me somewhat of some Ani stuff, too.

To my ears, it sounds "right", but I like that right sort of wrong. What this (or Cam's take on it) says about your theoretical audience's reaction... In my noiseworld, things can and sometimes should sound like that. I actually had to think about it to see how it would register as "off" 'cause I'm used to that sort of thing.

ACTUALLY: Now that I am thinking about it, do you think they would even notice? I mean, you add a little bit of push-pull here and there but it never gets trainwreck-y so I am not sure if it would even register to their ears..? You know how it is when a bunch of timeless fucks get into a room and try to clap on beat to a song. It makes me question whether they would even notice. Half of all that these people in question hear is vocals, anyway.

I dunno, i guess i am just kind of wondering if i am trying a bit too hard, like NOT to play the things the same. Obviously, only i could know the answer to that, really.

But, especially those two bits where it is like six descending notes, and they are soooo close to almost being played at the same time.

Hmm. I guess i will listen to it tomorrow and decide if i think it is just silly.

As for it reminding you of Opeth snaxo, i don't mind. My first issue with that band is vocals anyhow. That and their love of major chords tossed into the middle of otherwise dark things. :cop:

This is cool. And yes, it does have kind of an Opeth-y vibe.

Out of curiosity i decided to try to make them fit together differently, to make comparing the options easier for myself.

2. Lead-esque part follows original rhythm-ish part's timing.

Or.

3. Rhythm-ish part follows original lead-esque part's timing, sort of.

It was just quicky done, so it isn't really exact how they match up. I also changed the second part a little in timing for these, though i might prefer the original timing for that.

:idk:

I like the original the best out of the three, honestly, for both riffs. Especially for the second riff. The first, the whole free time thing works for this particular sort of Sad Bastard Rock. It sounds "right", or the right kind of wrong, to have the guitars struggling to catch up with each other there.

I agree. I mean, partly for me that is probably because that is how i thought of it originally anyhow.

But i seem to be a bit more (and probably too) accepting of carcrashchaos sounds than moast foalks. And i have been feeling pretty crazy lately, so i figured i should at least try it a couple other ways and see if i wasn't just being oblique for the sake of it.

I actually really dislike the slow one (#2). The quicker one (#3) is okay, but i prefer the unformed tailschasing of the original. For the second riff of it, i like how playing the ten notes makes it sit off center, as opposed to the two-sets-of-five which gets a bit more symmetrical. I do like the pseudoecho effect of the interlock between guitars in the two-sets-of-five version though.

Strangely, agreed re: #3 being the better of the other two. I didn't care for #2 at all either. It seemed too stiff and too obvious. Like this is how it should sound if you're doing it all right and proper, and it seems less interesting that way.

I do hear the Opeth vibe. It's kind of ''ooh, that's perdy and mysterious and a forest with sunlight beaming down through the leaves". And I don't see anything at all wrong with the clip. Maybe as a tranquil part after a more rhythmically regimented part, like the drums would stop and allow this guitar part to bloom on its own.

Edit: Also, I like it! :tu: Something I forgot to mention.
