I think I already have another thread like this open for Vesication's full length. Well I should be able to wrap that up soon. Here's another such thread. I joined this band as a vocalist, but since they are drummerless and I just live for this shit I offered to do the studio drummer thing so they could get a recording out this summer. https://soundcloud.com/geoffhodsman/grind-song-2-drums Foar Snaxie, as we were speaking about this in another thread... there are some kick drum edits during the slow down bit in the middle of the song. Should just be a little whisper of the original hit surrounding the fixed hit. This is from nudging only the kick drum hit, as the other sounds that were played at that moment were on time. The evidence is easily buried by the other instruments... Chris, I am sorry about making a point of 'fixing rock records' Do we want a mic run down? Ah sure... Kick: Avantone MONDO into old Altec mixer Snare: Audix i5 into Altec mixer Toms: Avantone ATOM into Focusrite Room: AT2050 in omni maybe three meters away Overheads: AT2020 spread pair There was going to be an anal mic but I ditched it so I can do my lame edits. In fact you might be able to see it in this pic.

Editing metal recoards is practically a given these days. ![]() People's ears are just used to it. Kind of a self-perpetuating thing for sure, but i at least understand it for metal. Your clip aslo reminds me that now that i am making a little bit of money, i should seriously revisit the acquisition of a new snare. I like the sound of yours. Still the supraphonic-type? You have a sensitone yeah? |

Chris, you have seen this, correct? http://www.electricalaudio.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=43311 Of course you are probably familiar with the apparatus in question, but still... |

I'm glad you understand Chris. ![]() Yeah still my Sensitone black beauty copy. I tuned it down a little bit from what I usually have. That really made the 800 hz ring come out. I concur on Snaxie's notion of getting an Acrolite. |

Listening again, I think I hear the hint of an edit or two, but I forget where, and that would disappear anyhoo with a guitar over it. I could live with those drum sounds as they are. Sounds a lot like a good recording of drums to me. You can make that Do A Thing if you need it to. I wouldn't kick that out of bed if someone sent that to me to mix. I'd be curious what the bungholemic was like there, just to see if it could be made to Do A Thing and if edits wouldn't be hidden in context. |

Yarr, i know of teh Acrolites. My (relatively)local Music-Go-Round supposedly has about a dozen used ones of them aslo. As a stopgap/immediate fix of my i-hate-my-snare-right-now-ness, i will prolly do that. For general i-am-a-drumnerd sorts of reasons however, i do intend at some future date to acquire a proper brass 6.5 incher though. Ludwig has one they are calling the Black Magic or something like that that sits waiting on my i-want-a-pony list. Basically a supraphonic/black beauty with cast rims. All of my favorite things. Too many dollars. But still.

I just realized something... Something which cannot be unheard. The crash cymbals I am using are the first three notes of a major scale. Just listen to the hot cross buns shit in that clip. It's like I was playing some happy preschool melody.

Oh man, it is subtle but totally audible when one focuses. Drumming on this shreds, dem D-beatz. |

A Friend Who Drums actually picked his crashes based on their pitch relationships and would occasionally employ them in patterns based on that. I think it was more like a minor triad though. And more obvious than yours. But yes, the drumming on this is very good, as are the tones. |

Thanks guys. I barely know the guitar lines since I learned these while recording... and Iisten to the drum tracks a lot lately, so in my brain they have become rhythmic cymbal melody songs. Well I'm taking a break from playing until tomorrow's gig. Burnt out on drums. |

When the rest of the shit is recorded I could make raw tracks available for thy enjoyment, if you wish? It'd be interesting to hear what a Snaxie or any other parties would do with my tracks. |

I'd be up for doing a grind mix, sure. That is not something I get to do every day. What the results would be, I don't know. But that would be an interesting thread in itself: mix Geoff's Grind Song. I'm thinking at least of the regular folks, you, me, Chris and Cam would come up with something totally different.

Done the drums. For the very last song I tossed in my 16" floor tom from my old kit for some added thunderings. Now here's some little shit I put together to illustrate something I've mentioned: https://soundcloud.com/geoffhodsman/beubeubeu |

You should sample those vocals and lay them over all of your deathmetal records that you use these cymbals for. |

https://soundcloud.com/geoffhodsman/pre ... ex-machine In order to have my vocal parts worked out before we go to any rehearsals I ended up beginning vocal tracks before we even record guitar or bass.

We recorded bass and the bulk of the guitars today. I'm really pleased with the tones. Bass is a Big Muff Bass pedal into a Peavey combo amp, a uhm... Peavey TNT115... miced with an SM57 and Avantone ATOM... And that is strengthened somewhat with a DI also. The tone is pretty fucking grind! Guitar is a Boss MT-2 into Peavey 5150, GenzBenz G-Flex 2x12 cab, again the SM57 and Avantone. Somehow Eddie dialed it in to sound a lot like an HM-2. I am loving the tone. Tilted the microphone balance in favour of the Avantone mic here, it sounded more interesting. All mics were are going through my Altec mixer. Wow, a different track finally: https://soundcloud.com/geoffhodsman/asp ... oken-glass Mix is pending for some changes still, but I am really digging the raw-ish sounds. |

Almost forgot about this. I offer this short track, 'Prenatal Punching'. Editing is there, as are my volume settings, but EQ and compression and all that other flim flammery is not. I'd be very interested to see what happens when you guys mix/mangle these. http://www.mediafire.com/download/jz3hr ... awBits.rar On my end everything's done and I've just been tweaking my quote-unquote "master" unquote-quote... over and over and over...
