Like the tune, but even moreso like the title. Those are some words that resonate with me in multiple ways at this particular point in time. :red:

Bent It Circular, Ent It Infinite.

Feeling a bit sonically rutstuck lately. Hoping warmer weather might shake something new loose. I might just need to start playing more drums or something. Dunno.

I still detest the (audio) results, but... i think i might just like making covers for the things:

Transmissions From Very Low Orbit.

Some questionable sonic additions have been made to the first one. By tomorrow, i am sure that i will even more fully disagree with them. This is the nature of such things.

I broke my fake snare in comical fashion(it was a pilot G2 pen, and it fucking exploded).

I don't like the sound of my new fake snare as much, but at least i am pretty sure that it will never explode. (It is an old oral b toothbrush)

Air Conditioner.

I guess i could always go back to what i used to do. Like, actually play the real drums that are in my basement, which, i am also way better at. :red:

Although i do find the loping mistimed nature of the fakedrums to be sort of endearingly shit, honestly.

As you all certainly know by now, i, uh, kind of like things that are terrible.

Yeah, fuck that last one. What the hell was going on with the low end?

I think it is time for a Great Cull. That soundcloud needs a solid scrubbing.

I really dig the fake drums approach, it is funny because the lack of cymbals is not incredibly apparent in terms of things not sounding empty. The skronk/tippytippytop of the 'tars sort of pumps around the fakekick and fakesnare in a way that half simulates brass.

I agree on a lot of that. The cymbals, especially my stupid heavy loud bright ones, really take up a lot more space than they need to on a recording. They would be (and were) great live, but in my basement they are crazy excessive, and really almost any drum recording i do becomes more of a cymbal recording than anything else.

Additionally, in a mix, i am generally surprised by how little "drum" information is needed to sound drummy. Honestly, even going for a kick sound is often a bit more than i really need to do, and all that is sometimes needed is the slightest hint of a snare-like thing. Other times, i find that a snare element is not even necessary as long as there is some sort of thumping bass/kick element. I very rarely think to myself "oh man what this needs is some smashy cymbal noise right here". It just isn't usually something i find all that necessary, or that i generally find myself missing in most mixes.

Even if i do start to get off my ass a bit about tracking real drums, i wonder if i might want to at the very least take out my crashes and ride, if not just all of them. I don't know what i will do with my free hand then though. Probably bruise the shit out of my leg.

Anyhow, one of the main things i have been toying with lately, conceptually, is basically this: the less things you have in the mix, the louder those things can be.

This is also why i have been leaning lately towards a much more whump snare sound than a crack one. If it can be as high up in the mix as it can be when there aren't cymbals fucking with it, it a: doesn't need to cut through that hard, and b: can actually benefit from taking up more space by having the more extended transients that lower tunings provide. It is just kind of a change of pace for me i guess.

Though, my main problem RE: this, is that i have never been able to get my own real snare to sound correctly in this low of a tuning. Which is funny, because that is pretty much the default "i don't know how to tune a snare" sound, and i totally have thus far been unable figure out a workable version of it for myself. I should just have someone who doesn't know how to tune a snare set one up for me i guess.

I think the real trick to get that sweet shitty snare sound is to detune the bottom head more than you would ever feel comfortable. Also, some snares just sort of don't want to WUMP! as much as others. There is a really funny one that lives here that will do that sound pretty much no matter how you tune it unless you really crank both sides.

Maybe run just a (hopefully quiet) hi-hat and then a silly-ly placed crash that is way away from your close mics Stanier-style? Both for that bleed benefit, and for it to be less convenient to hit.

Or, like, i could just be too lazy to even do any drums at all, fake or otherwise.
