So I've been meaning to make like, some sort of rock music lately, starting with fleshing out my favourite drumjams. I did the instruments for this song this weekend. I'll eventually do the drums for all of the songs in one full swoop...

A little iffy on some things here, like maybe I'll redo the leads? I'm not sure how I feel about them yet. And the bass seems to be swelling on the sustained notes... I guess I compressed it wrong on the way in. So maybe redo that too if I can't figure out how to fix it.

All guitars are my Warmoth into the 5150 with a tubescreamer, quad tracked. I think there is some midrange frequency which is sticking out in a bad way. I'll find it when my ears are fresh and see if it can be reduced. SM57 and Audio Technica 2050...

Bass is that big maple one with the silk front I built a few years back, into Snaxie's DBX 163, then the TSX Sansamp VST.

I reloaded a different mix.

I might redo the solos sometime down the road, they just kind of bug me with how my vibrato sounds and how I timed a few licks.

But what's really getting me, and I wouldn't mind advice or feedback on this, is what to do about some sort of 'swelling' the low frequencies of the bass are doing. I've tried a few compression and multiband compression things but it hasn't worked out yet. But I'm not necessarily that good at that sort of thing so maybe, ah I dunno. Aghh.

Ah yes, i remember this'n.

As an aside, it has been a while since i have been reminded that i want a 5150, but yes, there it is, i certainly do. I fully intend to use it wrong though.

Will there be vocals? I feel a bit, like there should be.

Also, nice work on expanding a drumjam fragment into a full thought. I have only made halfassed attempts in the past to go back into my old drumjams, but have not gotten anything like results out of the excercise so far.

This, however, works. :huzzah:

Vocals? I dunno, I can't really think of any sort of vocal that would fit this!

So the bass, did it seem like sustained notes were swelling in a bad way?

Not in any way obvious enough to stick out to me, no. :idk:

Just listening on laptop speakers, but the bass does not seem to be doing anything unfortunate or weird over here. :idk:

Sounds cool, dooder. I could maybe see some sort of vocals, but I am not sure what sort it would be or how much would be appropriate.

The sustained notes work.

Another one, and again, it's based off of Todge's drumjams. Fleshed out into an instrumental song. Because that's where me heart be, as of late.

I am not feeling well about the bass. Unsure if it's a tuning issue or just, I need to scoop the 1K-ish emphasis that comes with pick playing out way more. A tuning issue is likely, as they plague me. Like I had to redo a lot of the rhythm guitars to get the acoustic and electric in tune with each other... tuning the guitars to fretted notes instead of open ones... Piss.

Uhh tech details...

Acoustic is my Yamaha student level model recorded with Audio Technica AT2020...

Electrics are a mix of my collection, all through my Laney.
First crunch is my recent strat creation with the JB bridge into the Laney with a little colour from to EP Boost.
Heavy guitar is my seven string (SD Distortion pickup) with some help from my Maxon OD9.
Tappy slidey stereo polymeter guitar and leads at the end are my Warmoth (also SD Distortion) again with the OD9.
Ambient section is all my telecaster, though the reverbed stuff is actually a Tech21 practice amp with the spring reverb maxed going direct.
All micing was SM57 and Audio Technica 2050.

Bass is again my five string creation. I've determined that this weird swelling of sustained notes is a strange behaviour that is coming specifically from this bass. Maybe someday I'll ditch it for a real bass made by real luthiers (in a factory in Korea).

When I have a lot of material all these songs I'm doing will get real drums instead of these dumb Reason samples.
