My band went to the studio again, and recorded a thing:

That is just the raw tracks. Except for the radio-filter thing, the singer really wanted to hear how those would sound. Lots of vocal layers, and you can even hear me whoa-oh-ohing in the end!

Its cool man. Personally, i would like twice as much guitar and half as much vocal(just my M.O. in general), but i know that isn't what it is about.

+ Sounds good on the whoa oh ohs, there dev. :huzzah:

Yeah it hasn't been mixed really. The vocals were tracked last and that was bounced from when we finished tracking them so the singer wanted to hear them in detail. I am excited to get the first mix back though.

Thanks buddy :dildo:

What Chris said. Approved. This sounds quite nice for more-or-less unmixed raw tracks. Very clean, not the gritty shite most of us here are on about. I dig the guitar sounds (I think the bass could come up a bit, but see above re: M.O.) and the dirtfilter thing works. Honestly, I usually track those sounds with a randomshit mic and a distortion pedal, but if you have the option of keeping 'em off... Leave 'em on. It fits.

Interesting to hear how much metal is in this stuff these days, too.

Nice, dude. :huzzah: The voice filter really is choice, homeboy sure sounds solid as hell for not having any autotune that I can hear (which is a nice change from the norm).

Was the geetarz the orangebox or maps this time? Sounds nice.

Well one guitar (the less heard rhythm track the singer does) is an orage box, but a rockerverb 50. I am using my Mesa Siletto (I got a Stiletto btw).

And yeah he is a musical theatre dude. Nice to have someone who can actually sing.

And snaxy yar I bring the metuhls to pop punk.

Dude. The Stiletto is a fucking awesome amp. I miss mine. Would purchase again. Blue/Fat Clean and Red/Fluid Drive with a TS-type boost in front are  . Plus the black faux alligator front panel warms my glitterglam heart. I have nothing but good things to say about that amp. Makes a reasonable substitute for a Bogner Shiva, too, though a little drier/more Marshally feel. Same ballpark sonically. Great clean channel. If you still have a Dual Rec, run them both at once. I have done this and can attest to its awesomeness. (It might be a bit much, stylistically, though- it's a kinda overwhelmingly big riff sound.)

First mix back: https://soundcloud.com/dtcurrie/sa-mix

Mind if I pick yer brains?

I dig it, but I have heard it so much recently I don't even know what I am hearing anymore.

I think the drums- the shells, not the cymbals- could come up a bit? I think the toms in particular are getting lost behind the giant guitar sound. The tones are cool, but I think the drums are getting buried a bit.

Is that a synth in the background during the bridge?

Nope, no synth that I am aware of unless they snuck some in.

I feel like the cymbals can come down a pile. They are eating a lot of compressor space to my ears. Almost makes it sound like a sort of low bitrate lossy file. Definitely drowning out the rest of the drums at least. Sounds like they are doing some EQ biz to the guitars to get them to come through the cymbals aslo.

Depending on what kinds of options the engineer left themselves in tracking the drums, it seems to me like bringing the brass down might make everything else sound better all by itself.

I agree with alla what has been said heeyah, particularly about the cymbal volume/compression-y-ness. It might be a thing going on with a drum mix bus or the individual tracks themselves but I think they're hitting the threshold nearly constantly, which is def giving them that infinite sustain that is popular with these records but a little less would probably slicken up what sounds like a very good recording of some very nice cymbals. I think that would also really embiggen the guitars too. :idk:
