The JSX had a bad filter capacitor, which was causing it to sound muffly and dark. I didn't like it as much as the one I borrowed long ago, until I took it to the tech to get a once-over. I really enjoy the sound of this map. In clips it strikes me as kind of a cross between like mesa recto, and like a 5150. It seems to have the distortion grain smooveness and lowermiddsy voicing of the mesa, but with some of the violence and more of the surgical tightness of the 5150. I would love to try one out in person.

Well, it has a fantastic clean channel if you're into pedals... it's very sterile, though. The crunch channel goes anywhere in between clean and this clip right here. The ultra channel is more gainy and a touch looser and thicker. This amp has a very very Marshally lead sound. |

Chris' assessment of the JSX's tonal character sounds about right to me. Also, damnfine clip.

Treble 9 Mids 4 Bass 8 Gain 10. Numbers, not clock. Boosted the crunch channel with my OD-808, drive off, tone half, level half. Resonance dimed Presence half. |
