The drums have been done for a while now.

We finished the guitars today...

Awaiting bass and vox.

Here is a clip:

I am a little iffy on the toms, I think I want more brightness and attack. And I want more of a triggered sound during long double bassings. Aaaand I can't hear the crash cymbals as well now that there are guitars. :( Well, I will dick around with the mix some...

The guitarists used some Gallien Krueger bass map into a Marshall 4x12, with a Digitech Metal Master in front. It was miced with an SM57. The tone was pretty thin, so I ended up running their guitars direct also and used Poulin Legion VST and impulses to fatten them up.

You really want more cymbal than that? I disagree 100% on that. The amount of cymbals sounds very good to me actually. :idk:

I agree on the kick though. It still sounds out-of-phasey to me. I know you said it was how you wanted it, but i think it would be extrabroots with a different sound.

I dig the snare sound too.

For the toms, what are you looking for, just a clearer separation between hits in the rolls? Because to me, they sound pretty good as they are now, and actually, they strike me as fairly attacky already. If it was me, i would probably run some kind of silly midscoopy bass boost on them because that is what i like, but for the mix you have, i think they sound good. :idk:

Tell your guitarist to use a randall rg100 with a boss od 20. Much better tone for the style hes trying. Thats a fact.

Yeah, I guess the only issue I really have with the cymbals is that the one on the left side is usually quieter than I'd like it to be. It might have something to do with the fact that I'm so very afraid to break my lovely AA Medium Crash. :red:

I am really pleased with the snare sound.

With the toms, I think I am pretty much into how the rack toms sound. It's just the floor tom. I might just even be craving for the floor tom to be louder.

Kick drum... I will have to do something about. Might have to see if I can trigger it after all...

Yarr, Reaper!

The singer of the band (most outspoken member) is all up in arms about my kick drum. He wants it to sound totally ridiculous. Which is possible, with a LOT of dicking around. I don't really want to do all that dicking. Dammit...

I agree on the drum sound being awesome. I updated the kick drum a bit and now I am completely in love with the drum sound we have here. It sounds fairly real, but it also sounds fat as hell and fucking raunchy. Nevertheless, the vocalist is making such a fit about it. He really is the big personality of the band, with the rest being either more submissive or too focused on just playing the damned music to care much enough to make a big case of keeping it the way it is... myself being the latter.

I'm probably going to end up triggering the kick, and replacing the double bass sixteenths with copy pasta so the triggering VSTs don't misfire. :red:

But I will keep the current mix somewhere safe, so I can enjoy it on those dark and stormy nights...

I like the kick, FWIW. It sounds like a fist.
