So here's what plugins I'm using and how they're used.
Master has SSLComp on it, set in a glue fashion, followed by Ultramaximizer which is doing as it's name implies, making shit loud.
Guitars (Stereo Chorus 2x12) have copious amounts of C4 on them, which is a 4 band compressor. Here, it's taming the low end a bit, compressively scooping the mids, and barely touching the top end to chase away some of that SS 5k spike that everyone loves so much.
Bass has the C1 comp, which is basically flattening it out like a pancake. It's a a Fender Jazz Bass with EMGs that I borrowed from my rock band's bassist through Ampeg SVX for the lows, and TSE X30 to distort the everliving fuck out of the highs. (doubled)
Drums (SD2) have C4 on them, but it's idling along smoothing out some of the midrange generated by the snare, and (spectrum analyzer FTW) bringing the ride out of the mix.
This stuff is great. I get the feeling I'll get some use out of every plugin in this bundle in some fashion or other.
The mix itself is lacking low end, and I'm quite aware of this issue. It will be fixed in the future after I get my AC fixed, which should be tomorrow or the day after. It died yesterday morning, and it gets so hot in here during the day that merely opening Reaper makes my computer shut down.
So which of those 2 sound the best, given the source material they were fed?
I just stuck the mixdown mp3 into Reaper, did some tweaks on each plugin.
tl;dr

Re: First mix with the Waves bundle from hell.
MaxxBass was one of the few plugins i liked of the Waves stuff, but in this case, Ozone 4 sounds (much) better.
I know it is the style of metal to bury it, but IMO, you can/should crank the bass geetar a bit more in the mix.

Re: First mix with the Waves bundle from hell.
I usually do mix with lots of bass guitar, actually. People have been critiquing me for it. I've always been fond of modern rock mixes, where a lot of the simpler parts ride on the bass guitar. Take for example, one of the most boring songs ever written... So Cold by Breaking Benjamin. Song wise, terrible, mix wise, incredible.
I mixed the bass low this time, but I shall bring it up some tonight when I totally redo this mix with 6505.
Ozone is a fantastic plugin when used properly... it's capable of some glorious compression and it does a very effective job of maximizing the volume without pumping or clipping, if dialed right.
I like the Ozone 4 mix, but I too would like more bass guitar in the mix. But I plays bass so I is biased.

Yep, I don't generally do covers, unless I'm having trouble writing.
You're more than welcome to lay down vocals over anything I post. If I ever find a real vocalist that statement may change, but sadly, I'm the best vocalist I currently know, and I can't write lyrics for shit.
