 Knives.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/gh8jm1We were rehearsing this earlier. Things that have changed since this was recorded: totally different main synth sound we programmed on the Prophet. Dumped the synth lead. Half-time feel under the guitar lead in the bridge. Realdrums = more interesting than my drum loop demo shit. Mr. Chris's truly fucked-up sounding guitar during the verses. (Diezel Herbert + G-Major 2) Also, I like my vocals on this better live than on the recording. It's just a songwriting demo anyway. Some of you have heard this. This is the one with the bass from my Novation.

 Re: Knives.
That's pretty cool. It sounds kind of like the hard rock I want to make someday, only more synthy and less guitarey. How'd you record the drums?

 Re: Knives.
SD2 for the realish sounding drums and Logic Ultrabeat for the totally fakey sounding drum machine stuff? I have an SD2 preset I made that more-or-less fakes our drummer's kit for demo purposes, complete with tambourine and that weird red percussion block thing he has. Re: less guitary- the live version has even less guitar. There's only one guitar going in the verses- I don't even play during them save for the intro and the clean lead going into the second verse, and we axed the whole bit where the synth lead is, which actually has some pretty traditional rock-guitaring going on on the demo version. And Chris's guitar is really jacked-up sounding; I'm the one with the massive pedalboard and he's got the shredder rig, and my guitar is totally normal sounding on this song and his sounds like a synth.

 Re: Knives.
You called them 'realdrums' so I was all, 'how... did he record these realdrums?'

...in context implying that the actual drums being played live were more interesting than what I did on the demo. My apologies.

 Re: Knives.
It made me want to listen to STP almost instantly. I do not know why, as it's not even remotely similar, but it's a good sign nevertheless.

 Re: Knives.
Because I sound like Scott Weiland and we sound like STP? Or... I don't know, that's confusing, actually. Maybe it's 'cause we as a band and I as a vocalist specifically have a total '90s alt-rock thing going on in a weird way, even if totally repurposed in a different context? Chris said the vocals reminded him of AIC (whom I adore.) for whatever that's worth? Even if the song itself owes more to Depeche Mode and Sisters Of Mercy...

 Re: Knives.
Also, I posted another track up a while back that our other guitarist/keyboardist sings on and Mike referenced STP specifically as well. Something about wanting to hear an alt-rock vocalist with a bad attitude on it. There's three of them in the band, so...

 Re: Knives.
Well, strangely enough, given my general lack of knowledge about the style of music you're playing, it's always been right up my alley. I've been a 90s whore since the 90s, and this stuff is basically the 90s, 20s/30s/40s, and 00s mixed all together in a conglomerate of win. It's very befitting of the noir love we have here.

 Re: Knives.
Billy Corgan... I can hear that. Scott Weiland... I haven't listened to STP in a long enough time I'm not able to place it. I was a big Pumpkins fan back in the day. I still appreciate them.

 Re: Knives.
Why thank you! That sort of gloomy synth stuff seems to appeal to metal people too, in my personal experience.
