I don't get it. Photo is of Behemoth, who are in the studio recording another album of boring over produced metal. |

They have the budget, so fuckit and do whatever; it's probably not going to all be used in the mix. Were they just doing the spot-micing cymbal groups thing, I'd expect them to be down lower? Credit where it's due, I suppose; for that sort of sound their production is, I feel, very good, in that it sounds like real humans playing. I don't expect them to go all minimalist, given their tendency toward shiny production values, but I'd rather see someone doing it like that for real. It's a big enough kit, what with a battalion of cymbals, that L/C/R OHs isn't that stupid an idea (works for Tool ), with a stereo pair in the back to capture reflections off the brick. It seems daft at first, but I've done shit like that a few times now, and it can be cool. I note the piles of snares and that he's playing a vintage Ludwig. IMO, this is way more interesting than "how can I get the snare out of the overheads? I want to sample replace everything". That room probably sounds awesome. |

It is odd, i probably should dislike them, but i don't. I am into the sound they make. It is a bit glossy for what i am normally into, but i still dig it. |
