Post Pedals
Image

The right side of my Iron Cobras broke, after ten years plus of faithful service. It might have to do with the fact that I've been practising a fuck ton for the past year to get better at double bass.

The replacement piece is on order but in the meantime I rented some other ones, a mid-level Pearl pedal called 'Demonator' which is apparently a hybrid of the Demon Drive and Eliminator pedals. Much cheaper.

You know what? I like them a lot. They are much lighter. It's almost like just tapping your feet on the ground. I think now that my problems with double bass for the past ten years may have been the Iron Cobras. This is a rare instance where you actually can blame the gear, and obtain other gear and instantly become better. The Cobras are just too heavy to activate. I am hitting tempos with single strokes on the Demonators that I couldn't before. This is really great.

The Iron Cobra is definitely a stomper's pedal. I don't think you can really set it up to have the lighter touch of other pedals, I've tried a decent bit to get it a little easier on the spring tension. Hopped on a friend's DW5000 the other day and was fucking flying on one foot blasts, was kinda neat.. Now that I got my double Cobra setup though, I will stick with these for awhile..

Nice on tha Demonators, though! I really like Pearl pedals.

It is funny, the Iron Cobra is the only pedal i have gotten along with so far. Love the double wide chain powerglide sprocket.

I do set mine up kind of brute though. Real steep, real stiff, and with the beater kind of way back.

And i basically never double pedal. :red:

I have to say i am pretty curious about one day trying some of the fancypants new pedals, Axis and whatnot. They seem a little "light hitter" to me, but on the other hand, they have so many adjustments that i kind of assume i could set it nice for my angle too. See them pop up used every now and then for not-too-insane prices, also.

I've always liked the Iron Cobras, perhaps because they were the most common decent pedal I've encountered, I just sort of took to 'em. :idk: I never found them difficult, and I'm not a particularly hard hitter. I also play heel-down, if it's anything. A friend of mine had the Axis longboards for quite some time and they were definitely a different feel; I wasn't used to them and found them a bit difficult to control, honestly- very light. I'm also not a very good drummer, though, so that's worth considering. That being said, if I spent more time with them, I would probably have an easier time Playing Metal Badly. Mostly, I just Play Jazz Badly behind a drum kit.
