Yes, he sounds awesome in that clip. I love how he's beating the fuck out of that shit. It's got dynamics, just on a much louder scale. Very musical.

I see Krimh rising up to be one of the most talented DM drummers..
He's still pretty damn young.
Dudes like Kollias, Smith and Inferno haves years and years on him and he's not far off from a lot of those guys.

He can play guitar like a motherfucker too.
That blew me away.

I don't remember liking whatever Intronaut i heard before, but that was rad as hell.

He is doing what i *want* to do with the drums a lot of the time, but he is actually, like... tasteful with it.

You know, i must have been mixing Intronaut up with some other band, as i am listening to some records now, and so far everything has been cool.

Okay, now i have reached their last couple records, and finding them considerably less good than the first EP and full length. :red:

Why do so many interesting metal bands go bad prog?

I can't answer that. :idk: I like stuff like Amorphis and Tiamat, some of the Moonspell and Samael stuff... But that's, IMO, meh metal going nice art-metal. The prog tendencies I can only explain away with chops deification. If it's difficult to play, it must be good. As I've long said, if I want to hear that, I'll record myself practicing to a drum machine/metronome. Or I'll sequence it.

Because I, as a listener and observer, who is emotionally impacted by art, could give a fuck how intricate what you're playing is, or if it's even in tune or in time. I do not care until such point as it negatively affects what I as absorber and interpreter of said art is feeling. Until such time as I'm going "dude, just like, now, stop. Please. You're killing me here. Quit it." I don't actually care. I am not your high school music teacher (and would probably fail you anyway). Also, Punk Is Not An Excuse To Suck. But Deliver The Goods with passion and conviction and you're in my good graces; I could care less about your chops and if I wanted to hear that I could record myself practicing. I do not, therefore, I don't.

Large portions of ranting deleted repeatedly.

Anyhoo:

And I like Nile, have for years; they're so OTT wall-of-destruction. But what I wouldn't give to hear a guy like this in a band that could lay back for sixteen bars at 84 BPM in the verse, y'know? And where's Steve Albini when you need him?

When I watched this I was like 'WTF...?' and then I checked who it was and I was like "ooooh."

The way he switches to the ride in the middle of the blast in the first few seconds is fucking beast as fuck. Even if it's a little sloppy.

2:00 double bass FTW

Some interesting words about how he perceived his situation at the end...

Dude is a badass. Suffocation, i never quite got into as deeply as i did with other bands, but Mike Smith, is right near the top of badassedry for metal drums. I totally dig his playing style, the way he blasts, the way he uses cymbals and fills.

As of recently he isn't in Suffo anymore. In fact Suffo are touring Europe right now with the vocalist of Decrepit Birth, who barely knows their songs and fucks them up, says they're from albums they aren't from etc. But that's because Frank just couldn't do the tour, Frank is still in the band.

ORLY. Wat happen?

The vocalist from DB is doing Suffo gigs? :hypno: I've seen Decrepit.. Like fucking 4 times. More than any other band I think, and it's because they seem to be on every goddamn tour that comes through here with anybody that I give a fuck about. So, I guess that means that Suffo has 3 DB members in it? Culross replaced Smith, Boyer's been in Suffo since their return after Despise The Sun and their vox dude is temporarily filling in..

Oh, and: Frank is king.

I wasn't aware Culross has any affiliation with Decrepit Birth but yeah.

The gist of what happened with Smith is that he as a very professional take on what they were doing and figured they could be the kings of death metal, wanted discipline from the band, whereas they all want to just get wasted and bang out tunes.

Hmm, interesting. I actually liked what he was saying about how he approached the band and shows, and recording. Is he playing with anybody else yet?
