Maybe he was a bit unrealistic in wanting that though. I suppose he wanted them to be like Cannibal Corpse or something.

Oh, woops! He's not, I was getting Malevolent Creation and Decrepit mixed up.

The first bit, he sounds more than a little bit like Derek Roddy on leaving Hate Eternal. Def metul is definitely not really a career. Doesn't matter how big your def metul band is.

Anyhoo, i would probably be pissed too, if a couple of doods wanted to keep going with a band that i felt that i had built from the ground up and written most of the songs for. Especially where he as Mike Smith, had quite a bit to do with why Suffocation sounded the way they did. The dude had enough of his own sound, to get a drumbeat re-named after the band, you know?

I don't know the specifics of Suffocation well enough know if his opinion on the rest of that stuff is accurate or not, but in theory i can get behind the concept. I have long felt that at a certain point, if bandmembers want to continue on, while core members/writers do not, at the very least, the band should call itself something else. :idk:

Black metal drummers are impressive as fuck.

I wonder how much fixing was done to the live footage. You can hear the kicks going slightly out in spots, so whatever editing they did doesn't seem to be to brutal.

Love the snare sound/sample also.

I will say this however, that painted-up blackmetal bands look ridiculous in the broad daylight.

I have a feeling not much fixing at all... just a feed from the mixer or whatever, mixed a bit after the fact, plus footage. It doesn't sound like triggers to me. And this drummer has a reputation for being fucking awesome.

Normally i would be inclined to agree, but it has become so expected/normal to overdub live footage for bigger metal bands these days, that i can't shake the pessimism.

Dude is clearly beastly though. I will never play that style, but i do wish that i could, just a little, sometimes. Superfast doublekicks in fours and threes, inbetween that and the slower threes and whatnot. Just so fucking sweet. Wildly overused and oversaturated in so many bands and musical styles, but on occasion, it just cannot be bested for effect.

The fact that he can play Inferno's parts at his age is fucking scary. What is he, like 22 or 23, IIRC? Inferno's been doing this shit since the beginning of time and can't smack the toms as hard as this dude. Shit is nuts.

Motherfucker is a boss.

I also quite enjoy that solution to playing a part that was clearly a studio overdub. It would have sounded weak if they had just done it with one dude.

This dude's drumming is weird as fuck.

Gotta respect the combination rehearsal space/play room.
