My only trouble with a large squid is, how is this bitch gonna fuck with a landlubber? If we can modify this squid with some wheels, then we are gold. Until then I see it as a slug, put some salt on it and it's useless on land.

Bigass-squid will raep your face.

While squids are pretty cool, they get pwnd too hard by sperm whales. Lazers and armor would make them unstoppable though...

The sperm whale is a pretty schinfty critter. It has, like, sonic stun beam apparatus in its Largest Nose In The Animal Kingdom. Which it uses to blast its fave-o-rite prey- bigass squids. (Which themselves like to whale the tar out of bigass fish.)

That being said, bigass squids raep your head and you wind up looking like this guy:



So I try to avoid them whenever possible.

The squid-whale battle is similar to the mongoose-cobra... its too 50-50 to commit to one side over the other. As a building platform though, the squid is much more solid and requires less upgrades to become unstoppable.

Even battle, squids are just unreliable.

The whale has a much greater inherent operating cost. It's a solid, proven long-term performer. The squid is more maneuverable and requires less maintenance, and would likely be easier to trick out. The whale's an excellent beast, but it may already be close to its potential without severe re-engineering á la the Mechanical Pachyderm. It already has a sonic blast weapon that can stun a giant squid or shark long enough for the whale to nom it.

Now, that's pretty impressive.

Another large squid, Taningia danae has a built-in strobe light.

Perhaps some sort of unholy squid/whale hybrid producing directed 230db sonic blasts, strobing on and off and emitting an electromagnetic pulse? Then truly we would rule the seas.
