Re: The Chris Thread
Presidents were cooler back in the day:
Quote:
John Quincy Adams and Herbert Hoover both had pet alligators. Hoover’s son, Allen Henry Hoover, had 2 gators that the president sometimes let run around the White House grounds. John Quincy Adams’ gator was a gift from the Marquis de Lafayette. Adams let it live in the bathroom. Of course, neither of these eccentric presidential pet-owners hold a candle to Calvin Coolidge. In addition to his many dogs, Coolidge had a donkey, a bobcat, lion cubs, a bear, a wallaby, and a pygmy hippo.
Calvin Coolidge was a strange motherfucker:
Quote:
Calvin Coolidge, Naked Cowboy. The former Republican governor of Massachusetts may win the award as the oddest man who ever inhabited the White House. Known for his laconic style, “Silent Cal” snoozed through much of his presidency and kept special pets around, including Rebecca the Raccoon. Coolidge was fond of playing cowboys and Indians, once having himself photographed dressed as a Sioux Indian chief. But his weirdest pastime was hopping on and off a mechanical horse in his underpants, sometimes donning a cowboy hat for kicks. Coolidge acquired the electrically operated horse in 1925, and kept it in his dressing room. He could pull a lever and increase the intensity of his ride. This was long before the film Urban Cowboy popularized the mechanical bull, so we give Coolidge points for being ahead of the trend curve. Yeehaw!

Nice, Silent Cal, maybe just didn't want to out himself for all of the other weird shit he was into.
That can't help but strike me as a missed opportunity for the US to take a turn for the strange, as a whole, though. Think of all of the bizarre policies and legislation that could have been.
In the past I have said, "Gentlemen, they are on to us," in reference to mere coincidences.
But gentlemen, they are on to us.
It must be weaponized.

The lack of missiles, flamethrower, or electric shock device is a big turnoff- that substantially lowers what I'd be willing to pay for one. It seems... Incomplete.

It also needs to be made out of metal and clockwork, in a steampunk style.
Speaking of clockwork, have any of you seen the film Hugo? It's basically a film about how awesome films are.

Looks like it's still in the prototype stage. Severely lacking in weapons and luxury items.

If not, you should watch it:
Grr. This isn't the actual video, but the real one looks to have been removed for copyright biz.
The real video is called Alone On The Wall, has more climbing, and doesn't have weakass whitefunk backing music.

Yeah I've seen that short video but not a full length. I love stuff like that.
