My bro in law gave me a bunch of their stuff to check out. I couldn't get along with it. It is like a weird hipster alternate Oi punk. Too calculatedly Anthemic for my tastes. And songs too long for single parts with no bass.

Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
All of the Fugazi albums (except Steady Diet and In On The Kill Taker because I never transferred my hard copies to my iTunes seeing as I'm a useless lazy fuck) plus End on End and the One Last Wish album, Abominable Putridity's newest shiz, Whores' Ruiner, The Arrival's Volatile Molotov, DEP's Option Paralysis and Bungle's California have been pretty much on constant rotation every day. Usually Ruiner twice, which is perfect except for Tell Me Something Scientific, which is meh-ish IMO.
Observation: Gang of Four's bassist was a mean motherfuck.

Mine is probably Daddy's Money, which I wasn't really into at first because the odd pronunciation of "PAAAAY to win", tryna sound aynglish. But anything with the screaming of "GODDAMN!" can't be beat. It is probably my favorite word.

Similarly, something about the way the "DON'T TELL ME. TOGETOFFTHECROSS..." bit is phrased gets along with my ears well. I don't even know what it is, it isn't odd or anything.
I also really enjoy the Huge Fuzzoctave guitar that he kicks in and out throughout the toon.
Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
Listening to Tell Me Something Scientific now. I had no idea what he was saying till just now. Just realized how the bass tone is like, nothing but bass frequencies. Also just realized the octave down fuzzery, little too muddy excessive for me, to be honest. This album makes me want an HM-2 so bad though. That is what's going on here, yeh? I could believe it to be something else, but that grindyness and the feedback sound too suspicious.

The dood poasts over at HCFX as "christianatl". Seems to be into a lot of boutiquey fuzzes. Actually, he uses a much bigger fx board than you might expect. If i recall correctly i think it was like five or more pedals?
No HM-2 on there if i remember correctly.

Yeah son, i have listening to them for a while now. My bro in law had me czech out the first CD after he saw them at SXSW or something. This new record sounds better. I like the older ones, but the production is extra "thin garage" on them. The newer stuff is a bit more "blown out garage" soundz, and i diggit.
Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
That's Martin Lopez of Opeth. Too bad they used SD2 samples for the drums (sounds like they were triggered by real drumming though). On the demos they have real drums.

My Occasional Metal Collaborator played that record for me, which is why I didn't acquire it.
We were both let down by the thing. Fucking awesome rhythm section- but we knew that. Not so impressed by the guitarist and singer- competent, but yeah, we like Tool too, yer point being?
And now that you point it out, I totally hear that on the drums. That snare roll? Err... Um...
And believe me, I wanted to like this. But I admit I expected more.

I know Opeth and Tool are, like, your fave-o-rite bands. So I, for one, am shocked.

Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
hmm I might not bother checking out the old stuff then, blown out garage is the best kind. This also just reminded me of how good the bass and guitar sounds are in the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack
Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
To be honest, Tool is one of those bands that just don't do much for me either. It is like, I in no way hear what is going on that's got everyone so excited. Like it's just not.. Registering. It's just.. Boring to me? I don't know.

I liked Undertow plenty back in the day. Only have the patience for like one song at a time from them these days though. Don't know what exactly about the band i dislike, probably a combination of things. Certainly something about the production sound of them. I do not like much metal that is so clean about the edges. Really i don't like much anygenre that is so clean about the edges.

I can see that. They're one of those bands people like just for the production, because it's sorta audiophile-slick- 2" tape, real drums in real rooms, old Marshalls, all that shit. And they're not really metal, there's just a sonic resemblance. Also, modern prog rock. And fanbois. I ignore those, as I actually just like the band for how they sound; they fall into the category, per a friend of mine (along with Opeth, King Crimson, Isis, etc.) of "that droney shit that Eric listens to". Which does have a little more in common than 10-minute songs and big guitar riffs. (Being all very polite recordings of things that could have gotten violent, for one.)
