Also, very very busy. Work has been teh suck. 3 practices this week and a benefit (read: we get paid, then give the money to an animal shelter) and November and Decmeber are about completely booked and a drummer in one of the bands is starting to get pissy about me being in so many projects... Well motherfuck, you wanted me and my multiinstrumental ass in you band, and I was in 2 other bands first. Don't give me shit, I will drop you like a prom dress.

I hate weddings. I have to go to one in a few weeks, and I don't know this person. Well not really. Generally they do not serve food for us vegetarians. If so they look at you when you say, "Uhhh, there's bacon in my salad..." they retort, "But it's not meat, it's just bacon..." Bad music, bad food, bad cake, old people dancing. NO. Count me out.

Open bar on the other hand, YES. As long as they have the good shit. Or if it's open bar, then I'll pay for a real drink. Top shelf please.

Hint: bacon is meat. Chicken and fish are meat also. This confuses people, who apparently think meat = only beef? Last I checked, fishes and chickens and swines were... not plants?

I am down with the open bar though.

On an unrelated note, I have two shows this weekend meself!

Indeed, niceynice! We have a big headlining show (that I'mma attempt to record somehow) on Friday night and Sunday we're playing the local music awards whatnot. :rawk:

We don't get an awesome trophy

but we do get a certificate of some sort. It might even be suitable for framing!

You can do a lot with SD2. BFD tends to be on the extremely dry side, so that might work too. Raw, comparatively. (In the "un-fucked-with" way, not the "sketchy recording" way.) I would stick with SD2? Joe Baressi's Evil Drums is available as an expansion for SD2 as well (3rd party), and that is awesome.

Either work. I never liked SSD. Overprocessed modern. It has its place, I guess, but it's not a place I'm down with.

The only problem I'm hearing with SD2 at the minute is that some of the sounds on clips I've heard (mostly the kicks and hi hats) really remind me of EZDrummer. I don't know whether that's good or bad as I'm not sure how many people could tell the difference. I'd kinda feel like I just paid a load of extra money for EZDrummer sounds  That being said I remember someone on HCAF poasted up a Fugazi cover and the SD2 drums sounded awesome. I guess it just depends how much you're prepared to tweak it?

There is a lot of tweaking in SD2. You play with the room mics ('specially the bullet) and you can get a sound very different from the stock one.

There are also different packs with different cymbals.

SSD is just that, overproduced... I only use it because it was super cheap when I got it. Though that mic plugin that someone posted really helps it out... Send me some midi and I'll give you some SSD clips.

Waaaay more editing depth in SD2. There's a lot of "hidden" sounds to access, too, like hits on the bell of the hats, etc. If they sound like EZDrummer, it's because they're not touching it. SD2 is a bit "bigger" and more open overall even before you hit the mixer. Just tweaking the faders will take you away from the Stock Toontrack Stuff sound right quick. If you just use the sounds that load up when you first start it and don't touch the levels, yeah, it'll sound like a somewhat better EZDrummer- same guys doing it, after all.

Actually using the thing properly, you'll get away from that in a hurry. You get a shitload of different snares, multiple kicks, 3 mics each on the snares and kick (you can tweak the shit out of the kicks, too, if you really get into the thing), different sets of hats, multiple sets of room mics... Totally different animal. I can send you some clips later when I get home if you'd like.

Contemplating never going back to my friends apartment ever again.

Cliffs on background:

Met a kid living in the same building here who had a real good weed hookup, so I'd buy some with him and smoke with him occasionally.
Kid was a little weird but I dealt with it in order to get dat dere green. (it was amazing bud)
Introduce him to one of my friends, and they got an apartment together with another kid.
Kid has been getting increasingly creepier/weirder since I met him
Wanted me to live with him but I denied that request

So last night I was at my friends apartment, and we smoked and drank and watched the new episode of south park.

As I'm sitting there watching tv I see him sitting there staring at me. I notice out of my peripheral vision he's just glaring into my eyes. I had to tell him to stop and he'd look away and pretend he wasn't doing anything.

I'd get up and go to their kitchen to get another drink/shot and he'd follow me in and block my path and pretend he wasn't doing anything.

I had to make up an excuse to leave early or else I'd throw acid in his face. I don't think I'm going back anytime soon. Also, for some reason he's got an illegal immigrant from his school living in his room with him. They go to "bed" at the same time and lock the door and listen to Coldplay.

There is definitely something wrong there.

No normal person listens to Coldplay

Nothing wrong with consensual sex with Coldplay, but dude needs to learn to be less of a creeper around a true bro.

Haha, wait...

Good to know :isay: Some clips would be good! I think if I get some good drum sounds (and a proper bass) my tunes will hopefully be a bit more realistic and less cheap sounding.

Goddamn Rangers, keeping me from watching an awesome episode of the Simpsons. Why couldn't Hamilton or Young just have struck out?

Today I packed up my bike ready to fly home on Sunday. Mixed feelings, happy to be going home and seeing family/friends again, but sad that I don't get to stay here or Vancouver for longer. Autumn is kind of depressing here though and Whistler is like a weird little bubble community of mountain sports people

I'm also strangely looking forward to proper job hunting as well. I find it a lot easier to apply for jobs when it's something I actually want to do. It'll be nice to have money again, the past 2 months have felt a bit too studenty :red:

Yeah it was very good to me and most importantly I have a new poutine addiction to take home with me :red: The local beer was a bit average though, it all has this weird taste to it.
