That has been on there for a good long while and the price has dropped to jackshit. It's worth 10x that just parting out the input channels. And ironically exactly the thing I wanted as it is A) damnfine and B) killer mod platform. This would have been well into the five figures new. I can't get a 16 channel one for that!

A now-once-again local promotoress (whom I've known since high school) invited me to a party at her place tomorrow eve. Incidentally she's also the person we've been wanting to approach re: management for the band. The record's almost in the can and we just got booked for Convergence, appeared on the Best Of Buffalo thing and won some awards. And I'm back at ze big studio Monday to re-cut some vocals and whatnot and talk to my hookup there.

I haven't even heard them. I just know marketing when I see it, and thusly look down upon the dim witted open wallets.

Consider what you can get for a hundred or less: AKG 240, Sennheiser HD280 Pro, Sony MDR 7506, Grado SR80, Etymotic er6 (in-ear)... And I can guaran-damn-tee you those are good and not super-overpriced murky-bass DJ headphones that sound like a car stereo. The consensus in the audiophile (minus the negative connotation) world seems to be "severely overpriced".

Marketing is funny like that- you can get an objectively superior product for significantly less and something really supernice for the same... But said better things are marketed to specialists. My housemate has three sets of Sennheisers*- she knows what's up- but supernerd who hangs around with musicians and the like, female King Crimson fan, jazz pianist**, etc.

*- considering her always-having-headphones-on part of my Christmas present to her was/is gonna be something swanky 'phone-wise; HD280pros being the obvious answer but I'd like to have her try out a few different things and maybe something more iPod-friendly (Etymotics like we use with ze band? Not too far off...)

**- fuck me, I live on the second floor. Considering the pianos, Hammond organs and Wurlitzer (they made them here) electric pianos I see on Craigslist for jackshit... They would get played, too. I have half a mind to buy this stuff, take it to my studio and bring it home when we move.

Anything made in conjunction with Monster Cables is guaranteed to be overpriced shit.

I have used the beats (kid in my class has them, I asked to try them out). They are stupid uncomfortable and did not blow me away with the sound quality. Everything sounded ... good ... I guess, but certain things sounded like they were getting way more emphasis then necessary. The bassed-out-car-stereo comparison is fairly spot on.

They are not poor quality, they just provide a poor listening experience.
