I just downloaded the most recent Opeth album. wtf happened to this band?! I don't really get the new direction I guess. I didn't really like the album before this either.

I wish they would stop remixing records that sound unique and awesome already.
This is, IMO, pretty bad, and i just do not see the fucking point. The song is still good, but there is nothing gained, though certainly something lost, in "remastering"(actually: remixing) it. Been hearing a lot of this sort of shit lately.
My guess is that it has less to do with sound quality than it does to dollars-and-cents and who owns what master, and who can make what off of said master. It is bullshit, whatever the reason.

I'm enjoying this new Frank Carter stuff. It's like Gallows before he left and they went shit.
I rather enjoy his voice. Never really listened to the gallows stuff, as it isn't quite my flavor, but the singer's sound has an interesting angle that i dig.

I really cannot stand the sound of Tom Delonge's voice on these laterish records at this point in my life. The double tracking and autotune is so goddamn jarring and unnatural sounding. I love Travis' drumming and the batshit-but-almost-subtley-so character it brings to the songs, but the production is just so jacked up in some aspects.
That said, I am definitely going through a blink revisit.

I saw them do that live back then out here, and it was a lot better than this version. I was actually really impressed by Buzz's ability to play the guitar parts when i saw them do it.
This version is clearly related, but sloppier and a bit less fantastic. I think they did it with less of the goofball vocal noises when i saw them too. This one sounds a bit like piss taking to me, but the version they did out here felt much more like a respectful tribute. And it was FAST. That was also when i realized that the new band was actually making Dave Lombardo not just a better drummer for playing oddball music, but also making him a better drummer for playing his old metal style as well. He was really good that night.

Doom metal, electronica, dreampop hybrid, with lovely ladyvoice, eh? Okay, I can appreciate this.

i haveta admit.. i initially thought i was not gonna like this, but it's kinda like a tremendously fucked up siouxsie and the banshees meets dead can dance somewhere near godflesh hangs out with nina nastasia-ish.. her vocals are pretty cool.. like the sludgey music. love that mongo-ass snare sound.
i could listen to that!

Yeah, the potential to create something straddling the border of tedious and dreadful is really strong here. This could easily have wound up sounding like the more questionable sort of European metal band covering Cure tunes at half speed. I'm down with the end result here. If more singer-songwriter sorts want to plumb the depths of weirdrock rather than just strumming away, I'm all for it.

I'm too poor now to buy a footswitch for my sunn concert lead, but after reading the schematics i realized i could simulate one by plugging RCA cables into the back, and then shorting them out with tinfoil and rubber bands. Bam, distortion channel now accessible, because of course, in 72 it was too hard to put a button on the panel to turn on the channel, NOOOOO yhou NEED the footswitch.
