Sounded pretty good boosting my friends Iommi sig that I'm currently using. I ran my FZ-2 into it and it was fucking filthy!

Music is fine, Girl is very iffy, In terms of recording though, everything is nice and clear, sounds great! I like my guitar + bass combo to have a little be more low-mids but that just me.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
It's kind of the other way around in real life though, considering the girl is two takes plus a couple spots redone, versus the guitars being done in fifteen gajillion takes and edits...

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I've tried out for like 6 bands in the past 2 weeks. I've gotten calls back to play keys in a symphonic metal band, guitars/vox in an established punk band, and my favorite.... vox/acoustic in a damned emo band.
Such is life

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Play in the emo band but make it subtly ambiguous whether or not you intend to make the band into an utter parody... Play in the symphonic band .

Props, Opeth, for admitting that one band's classic album is better than your classic album.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I've come to realize that I just don't like goddamn hi mids in my listening devices. Probably why I jived with my Sennheiser in ears for so long, the high mids were smoothed right over. I have had these things for a year now: They receive rave reviews, more or less. But I can't fucking stand them. They are SO overemphasized in the high mids... ALL of them. Such that a distorted guitar sounds like a buzzing rather than a chunky goodness. Everything sounds cold and nasty to me. Yet everyone else loves them and has no comment on what I'm perceiving. The closest thing I've heard anyone say is that they have a 'narrow sound stage', which they damn well would when there's high mids all up in your face. I'm using them now though, with my MP3 player set to take out a deep broad chunk centered around 3.1 kHz. Guess what opened right up when I did that? The 'sound stage'. They actually sound really nice now, maybe a little weird still, but I can definitely jive with them like this and enjoy their good qualities, which are quite good. Lots and lots of detail and a really fast, tight low end.

Two days in a row of 72º, in early March.
Fucking awesome.
I am going to be so cranky when the temps drop back towards normality.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Usually if there's a high mid emphasis problem on an audio product, someone somewhere will mention it. And I've noticed you tend to take quite a bit of low mids out of your mixes. Maybe the problem you're hearing isn't there, you're just used to sound systems that emphasize the low mids versus not emphasizing anything? Or have a lack of high mids? You know, traditional hi-fi stuff.
It took me a long time to get used to listening to my monitors, because they don't slice out the high mids like most hi-fi systems do. And it's perfectly reasonable why hi-fi systems suck the high mids out of everything, high mids can hurt.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yes indeed I have considered that, though in harsher terms like "I broke my ears by listening to Sennheiser in ears and Klipsch desktop speakers". But the sheer amount of high mid in this case, it's over the top, it has to be.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
And they're right, it is one hell of an awesome album. And, it its way laying down the framework for something like Blackwater Park. I suppose I'm both a bit biased and a bit lucky in a way- while I was aware of both bands prior to hearing those records (one obviously long before the other) they were my first serious introduction to either and it's hard to argue with those as their definitive work, if you had to pick one. (I expect a decent second-place showing from Justice and Still Life respectively.) NS10s and Vintage 30s. What does everyone bitch about about them...? (For the record, I like NS10s. But I have odd tastes. Especially when it comes to midrange.)

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
If the Symphonic band can get a new lead singer i'd jump at it. But the woman is older than hell and build like a Mack truck..... Linkage to emo band..... http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/artist_songs/2103113PENIS. BTW going to see canadian artist Excision tonight.
