The first one has upbeat going on. I don't know about the voice of the leadsynth though, almost gives it a "primetime newscast interlude, 1992" vibe.

Second one seems put together a bit better, but almost a little lullaby with that particular flavor of repeating string pluck(or whatever) pattern. Again, it may be as simple as trying a different voice for it. But it seems to me, perhaps, to have a bit more of a mesmerizing/subduing sort of effect, than an energizing/upbeat one.

Actually, your tune might benefit from a somewhat similar driving beat, also. As opposed to the lighter, swingier version you have on there now, which perhaps lends also to the laid back/subdued vibe i get from it overall.

Yeah I hated the lead voice synth on Sample A too, but didn't realize until this morning after we sent it out.

We emailed her asking for examples because when I think of beach music the words "trendy" and "exciting" do NOT come to mind. Especially when you throw Florida into the mix.

Still trying to nail the bass tones down, and I really didn't play with the velocities too much so it's a bit lifeless sounding, but it's getting better.
