Les Pauls are thicker than that. IIRC the thickest center point of a Les Paul is something like four inches.

I just busted out a ruler, 2" would probably be more accurate.
But still, 2.5" really isn't that insane.

I wouldn't want to sling around any slab of Ash that thick.

My tele is a 2" slab of Ash and it is heavy as balls.

As for the LP, at the center with a maple cap I can see it maybe pushing 4", but they still trim down to ~2" at the edges.

Edit: In fact, my acoustic guitar is 4" thick almost exactly, and I have never played a LP THAT thick. Fuck, they almost always trim to around 2", and I can't imagine the carve being another 2" slope. This all comes from personal experience, as I has no LP to measure.

Imma call bullshit on that. Unless the thing was re-bodied at some point, the Fender Mustang has a 1.5" thick body yo.

If it is ash than an updated model or a new body is a possibility.

Also, you have to wonder how much of that is the finish, not just body wood.

My friend has a really nice ash (i believe '72) one, and it is thin as fuck. Also, when it was set up right, one of the best geetars i have ever played.

Mine's technically not a Mustang, it's a highly modded Musicmaster (which is an even lower budget guitar).
But it's a '74, and in '74 every single stringed Fender instrument was made of Ash, I don't know if that would have lead to some changes in thickness, but them's the facts.

Les Paul should be aboot 1.75 for the back and 2"+ if you have calipers with which to measure the thickest bit of the carved top. Them shits is gigantic.

Also, all ball-related bidnesses should be screwed.

In a pinch, you could use those decking nails that are barbed though.

Now I heard that in a pinch, you could use fishing hooks and airplane glue.

OK I did not use a proper caliper, but at the thinnest part of the body it is just shy of 2 inches and at the thickest part of the body it is over 2.5 but under 2.75. That is my 77 pancake body. I will try to remember to get a measurement of my 2007 Plus top.
