I fixed one of these:

with some of this:

A ribbon connector was making sexytime with another ribbon connector and causing mistriggers. One piece of cardboard and two pieces of duct tape later, it is fix'd.

So I've been offered that job I interviewed for and I have no idea what to do. It seemed really boring but I'd be earning £6k more a year and might have opportunities to move into the outside broadcast area, I just don't know :panic: :panic:

I believe non-fiction, but I have only seen my part which is small, the part I'm reading is from Hemmingway, I think. But I did just get an offer to change that part with a much bigger role for more $$. But it not that much money, but getting paid to speak ain't so bad. :idk:

Think i may go for it purely for the money and opportunities that may arise. Still gonna go to the interview at the green screen studio to see what's what though :red:

Tor, that is fucking sweet for the voiceover stuff. That is definitely something that could even lead to more regular gigs if you have the right voice for it. My dad was/is an ad guy and back in the day a lot of what he did was for radio stuff, working with lots of v.o. guys. It can be a good gig. Especially now with audio books and video games and whatnot. It is one of those things where generally just a few people get most of the work, but if you are packing a good/interesting voice, you could find yourself one of those people by taking whatever jobs are offered and getting the name out there a bit. :isay:

That sounds like the best course. If the greenscreen shit is a no-go, taking this other one would seem best even just for the networking/connections aspect of it. That is basically the only way to get consistent work in media stuff in this country anyhow. And i would assume that it would work similarly over there. Kind of like tor's V.O. thing, who gets work, has a lot to do with who knows the person looking for it.

If I could get any job in the media I would take it at this point, but my town and general region of the US of A is a very shitty market. Northward has some of the best markets in this country but northward is fucking expensive. Now the west, that has the golden egg of markets with LA. Unfortunately, LA is stupid expensive with a job to job-seeker ratio of 1:fuck-you.

But this is the land of independent success, so you get a few shitty gigs to finance living expenses while you freelance/start up a few shitty things that catch the attention of the right person then you are producing Real House Wives of New Jersey or maybe if you're lucky Tim And Eric Awesome Show Great Job or whatever.

Basically, as far as I can tell with my very little success in the media, all I can say is if you can get paid (and well at that) for working in the media, it ain't a bad option. But, if you can negotiate a decent salary at the green screen gig and if you can make a few decent networking connects then go for it.

But I am drunk, so there is that.

Yeah I'm in a pretty good situation being able to have the choice. The greenscreen thing would be similar pay, potentially a bit more. Their first client was Microsoft so I assume they have some pretty good contacts as well. Plus it's normal working hours which would be heaven. I would just feel a bit bad about accepting a job then declining as I'd been offered another one that I'd rather have :red:

I'll second this. The jobs I've had, since I lost my... what I assumed was going to be my career in perpetuity (until I ever actually finished my history degree) were all that sorta deal. "You worked for [insert here]? For how long? And you did [insert here] for [insert here] when you were there? Can you [x] a [y]? 'Which [x] do you have and which [y] do you need me to do to it?' Alright, when can you come in? Kids These Days, They Don't Teach Them.../that [Z] from [Q] can't find their @$$ with both..."

And hell, even that, to be honest, it's not because I was Captain Awesome of graphic arts when I was like 20; I got it 'cause I was related to an ad exec and my friend's mom ran the graphic arts department at an educational institution around here. My co-worker wound up in the hospital, I rolled in and did his job while he was out, they gave me a real position at real pay and that was that.

I've only ever really done print media. I've never touched 3d or animation anything. No clue, no training, no experience. I make prettypretty pictures. They are flat-but-shiny.

yeah, I'm hoping I get more of it, I have a good deep speaking voice, a lot of people said I should have gone on radio, but good thing I didn't as it's a dying breed. Also, I have about no dialect/accent since I've live everywhere in this country. I'll post some samples in the appropriate forum
