The thing with Budweiser is, they have this fucking awesome old logo:



With this beautiful hand-drawn-looking text. And they totally fucking ruined it and discarded it, turning it into this bullshit:



Which, for one, is over-photoshoppy, for two, uses utterly dull typography, and for three, they didn't even use it for the cans, which were instead this abortion of graphical ugliness and chaos:



Which aside from being oriented wrong for any decency with that design, is also not even really a design. It is just a bunch of ugly text and awards smashed into a clusterfuck.

ALL THEY NEED TO DO, is take that fucking sweet old design with the handdrawn-style text on the red bowtie thing, and slap that directly onto(oriented so that it is rightside up when the can is right side up) a white can with minimal extra bullshit, and that would be a fine oldman beer aesthetic.

So close, and yet so far.

Oh, and to make matters worse, when they DID finally redesign the can, and use the bowtie, they totally fucked that up too, obviously:



Ugly(comparatively) new bowtie, oriented wrong, extra bullshit snuggled up all around the logo, and they couldn't resist cramming too much graphical and text information in after all. It is cleaned up a bunch from the old design, but frankly, it is far too technological about it all, and basically, there is still just too much extra bullshit in there.

The fact is, that Bud has never had any really 100% excellent designs compared with their Old Man Beer Competition.

I'd say the Reich design would mesh quite well with their customer base.

So I've returned from my conference in Leipzig. I destroyed the audience with a supreme presentation.
The weather was glorious and the beer mostly free.

nose cased a jump on my bmx today and hit my head hard enough to cause me to be unable to move for about 10-20 seconds at least I was wearing a helmet, without it I might be a veg right now.

Todgo, that is some badnews. Back in the olddays, i was insanely lucky never to clock my brain up too badly on the bike. Tried to scrape my face off on the sidewalk once, and then on a curb another time, but never any concussiony action. And it is a good thing, because i never ever even owned a helmet, and was wayyyyyy too cool to wear one. I was a grade a dipshit in my yout. As much as i might be inclined to complain about fucking up my own existence in those years, things could have gone considerably worse.

haha yeah I've had a couple of crashes without a helmet and always felt lucky to get away without mushing my brain off the floor. Annoyingly I've messed up my dodgy shoulder again, just as I was seeing some improvement on my bench press and push/pull ups

My lack of posting here is only one of the many symptoms brought on by how holy-fucking-busy I have been recently.

Hopefully, I will have some good new to report on later tonight, but for now at least you all know I'm not dead yet despite the world's best efforts.

I scripted exactly 5 lines of code to my game prototype that I am rather proud of.

Also, I am making a lot of progress on my game. I WOULD post up a build but I have all the controls set for a joypad, and considering I would bet most of you don't have controller to hook up via USB I need to map alternate keyboard controls. Plus I want to slap together a basic HUD to walk the player through the controls, and throw some baddies in for kill fodder.

But it is basically a cheap megaman ripoff right now, and I am okay with that.

The controls work great ... with a joypad. The keyboard controls are pretty much shitty, but I haven't tweaked them much.

Everything is still very basic, and the enemies are still just templates (haven't had a chance to animate the models for them yet), but you can move around and shoot things. Also I haven't finessed the walljump/wallslide mechanics yet but you CAN do them.
