Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I found a random piece of glitter on my finger after reading this thread. My theory is that everyone at some point of the day has a piece of glitter on them whether they know it or not. I like 24.75" scale necks because everything is closer together and its easier to play I like 25.5" scale necks because everything is farther apart and its easier to play cleaner It kinda seems like I should try a PRS just to see what that scale neck feels like

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I like 25.5" scale necks because there's more tension and my heavy handedness doesn't knock the guitar out of tune so much.
Also I seem to break fewer strings on 25.5" scale guitars.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Snow, really? S'posed to be warm up here when we get it, well, relatively, just shy of 60º or so.
Gonna wind like a motherfuck though. Lots of flood warnings, lots of fired up people buying mad disaster supplies at the grocery store when i had to go there yesterday to buy cat litter. Pretty much most of everything around here has already decided not to open tomorrow, schools, stores, whatever.
I think Tor is likely to get worse than that too, where he is.
Oh well, i have some kibble, i have gas and oil for the chainsaw, i guess we will see what we get. I hope nothing falls on my parents' new(ish) cars that are sitting in the driveway at the moment. I am kind of hoping that that kooky october blizzardstorm from last year already brought down whatever angry trees/branches were so inclined around here though.

We've got a cold front passing through that's going to run into Sandy. I'm not sure what happens when a storm hits another storm but I'm sure it's nothing good.

It is comical how attractive your singer is with that gnarly fucking sound coming out of her. Shit was rad. Also, epic getup.

I know. Luckily I've had several years to get used to it. And thanks on all accounts. The full setlist was as follows: Alice in Chains - Them Bones Black Sabbath - NIB Heart - Barracuda Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper Death - The Philosopher Crowbar - All I Had I Gave Sepultura - Slave New World

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
All the mics except the ribbon got here today. Silly shit, I have an Oktava Mk-012, not an Mk-102. It seems I tarded out whilst purchasing the fucker, but it seems like it is still quite a nice mic (supposed to be super accurate/uncoloured)! And I got it at a good price (stealass prices by MK-102 standards EDIT: Looks like I got that backwards, the 012 is generally more 'spensive. It also appears to have screwonable omni capsules for it at $50), so it's cool. Silly mixup tho. I could tell when it was so fucking tiny, much smaller than could ever fit in a normal mic stand dealie, knew it couldn't be in the same class as the NT5 like it's generally thought to be. I knew it was a SDC pencil style dealie, so I just assumed I had the right guy. So I now go and check out the 102, and realize I have never seen the mic in my entire life, and somehow managed to only look at 012s in my search for them. This thinger'll will be interesting enough, I think. I just dunno what the hell to mount it with, I have a mic clip that came with my D112 that fits it, but I feel like that would be a bad idea? Fuck with the mics ability to pickup vibrations, yeah? It appears they came with shockmounts originally. Ayways, haven't got to record anything with them yet, though. And I can't fuck with the ribbon in a full band setup until I acquire a preamp. Jooooey, might you you still be wanting to sell that preamp of yours? I also need to get some mic stands and various odds and ends tomorrow. OH, AND! I unscrewed the handle on the 2x10 and put a board on top of it large enough to safely accomodate the AC15 sitting on top. It is is a lot less sketchy than it might seem, the amps dimensions aren't too dissimilar, it is just the surface area and lack of anything where the actual electronic amplification bits/faceplate used to be to support the feet on the AC15. It looks like a trendy hipster stack. I am not sure how much I like having the Greenback on top and being the most audible speaker, it is pretty dark. Recording wise it will work great I think though, stoked to have the ribbon aimed at it and the kick drum and just above floor level, I think it will sound magnificient. I've devised a basic plan of action about how I am going to mic these upcoming tracking sessions. I think I will record the room lengthwise, hopefully bringing a lot of depth to the sound.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Garda hits ze big studio later this afternoon to start tracking non-synthy-bits for a full-lengf rekkid. Alas we're all short on cash dollars at the moment, so no 2" tape. I think the thing's still in storage anyhow and last I knew they only had a 16-track headstack, which is not enough for all our drumfuckery. We're actually gonna try throwing down some guitars here too, at least on a few things. The first batch of six songs, I'm only busting out my fiddles on three anyhow and doing all of the synth work, which is to some degree already done. I am playing a Les Paul on one of the songs. Planning on using an Ecstasy and a Recto for that and the AC30 for the other two we're doing, but we'll see. I will take pictures (prawnshots ) of all the random gears. To Cam: I didn't even know the MK-102 existed?! A friend of mine had an 012 pair years ago when they were still cheap (their price has gone up quite a bit as their rep built, from a quick search! They were always good mics though.) and the switchable capsules were cool. Apparently the 102 is an LDC with a tiny body? The NT5s are of a similar size to the MK-012s and neither will fit in a normal stand, at least not without duct tape. They have a special small-sized clip mount, stock. The NT3 is a big honking thing that will, or might even be too big. The pictures I looked up of the 102 show it with both a clip and a shockmount- same with the 012s; I've only ever seen the 012s in person with the clip, and I've run into them a few times. Apparently the 102 is an LDC capsule on an 012 body, and yes, the two are compatible- looked it up. I ass-you-me the phantom power is the issue with the ribbon 'cause your inyourface'll only supply phantom in groups of 4, or globally, and you have mostly condensers? If it's groups of 4 you could get away with it on guitars or drums if you run the D112, 58 and the ribbon on channels whatever-whatever. Leaves you with seven mics available total. If your inyourface has a SPIDF in and you find a dual-channel preamp with a SPIDF out, you've gained two channels in addition to having something that has switchable phantom on each channel. Lengthwise, unless there's something jacked-up about the room, is actually better re: low end, at least for listening porpoises. Standing waves and whatnot. I'm not an expert on room acoustics by any means, but I don't see why this wouldn't translate to a recording environment. Recording is weird though in that you often want reflections- why drum kits usually wind up in corners, for example. For a room mic though, that would be my first instinct. The ribbon being figure-8, you'll pick up what's going on behind as well and any reflections off the far walls should seem a lot more distant and more, well, reverb-y than small room-y. Hrm... I can't think of an obvious way to solve the amp dilemma. Besides putting them both on angled stands. But that costs money (specifically, money that doesn't pass signal ) and will change your low end. I find my AC30 too woofy on the floor so I have it on a wheeled dolly. You could have the 2x10 vertical if it's shape'll allow that and stack the AC15 on top that way, but I wouldn't trust that live at all. Questions, questions...

Yo Tor, how did you make out in LI? My sis was 100% fine in her part of Queens, but i understand that various parts of the NY area got a bit fuckered.

Hope all of you American guys are ok after the storm. Today I received my long lycra legwear for a winter of road biking This stuff is worryingly comfortable and warm as fuck. I haven't committed to wearing them without baggy shorts over the top though, I think that's a step too far.

motherfuck. see what happens when we allow ANYONE to view our forum. In other news, we made it through, I have no idea how but we have power and internet. I drove around today and it was like the zombie apocaclypse no law anywhere no lights anywhere truly just mayhem, yet in 24 hours we have lights. I spent the afternoon cutting down trees and drinking.
