There are times I wish I could smoke weed and play video games, or some equivalent at least. but I just do not have the right sort of brain for those activities. Just way, way too on-edge and hyper-aware. Yet somehow totally scatterbrained and Somewhere Far From Here, say, Neptune?

You seem to channel that energy into music though, which is arguably superior to video game skill and weed smokability.

I am trying to do something similar. Granted, I will always love my video games, weed is more than likely on its way out. It is costly, and I have better things to buy (like Mike's G-Major, which I am hoping to send money for within the week). Also, it doesn't really help me accomplish anything.

The amount of money I need to spend to get the recording setup I want to get is a little intimidating though, so smoking weed is the easier albeit pointless alternative.

I suck ass at video games, mostly. Granted, I like stuff like Heroes Of Might And Magic or Civilization when new ones come out, I'm Waiting Patiently on Diablo III (which I will proceed to suck ass at, but amuse myself by bringing an enormous rackmount Hackintosh to LAN parties most likely) and occasionally revisit retro things from my youf, mostly OG NES stuff, and I'll play through the Marathon trilogy every couple years. (The precursor to Halo; very heavy on storyline. As much an RPG as a first-person shooter.) And Dungeon Master, which IIRC was the original first-person perspective game. 1987. Tracy Hickman wrote the manual. I first played it on my sister's college boyfriend's Amiga.

I did the math re: how much more money I'd have if I totally quit boozing it up (which I'm prone to do on-and-off every few years, apparently), and it's... well, it would translate into a lot more gear. Also .

If Diablo III is anything like Starcraft II development-wise, it will be well worth the stupid wait time.

I say we get some Maps-Diabloin' going upon release. I will hopefully have my recording PC by then. I need to decide on desktop vs. laptop.

Depends on how compact you want the rig, really. Now, granted you can rack up a 'puter and inyourface, but you still need a monitor and keyboard and mouse and whatnot.

I'm half-tempted to buy a drive, borrow Miz Jen's legit Windoze 7 to put on there, and use it strictly for gaming. I have another like 10 drive bays open. But then I realize how little I actually game, maybe for a few weeks a couple times a year.

The idea of having, say, an AKG 414 or Bock 195 through an Eventide as my talkback mic on BattleNet amuses the shit out of me though.

Well budget-wise the desktop is going to be way more friendly. Plus the expandability is always a plus. And, if I get the Tascam US-1800, I won't have an easily mobile rig anywho. So, I will probably go with desktop.

My only fear is the non-permanence of my studio arrangement. I won't live in this house for long, so I might not end up in a situation where I can have a home studio, thus mobility might be handy-dandy.

Yep I have decided to stop for a while and only smoke what I have left late at night, as it just stops me from getting anything done. Not that I have much to do for the next 2 months, kinda the opposite in fact, but it makes me not want to do anything other than sit around watching tv.. and I can do that at home And I kinda need the money to eat and stuff here
