It has been 90º+ for about 3-4 days now. My body is still getting acclimated to the increase, but it is a fine fine thing for summer to finally be here.

As I prefer to be stored in a cool dry place, I am not looking forward to this whole "summer" thing. I find it uncomfortable. But it is perpetually the winter of my discontent, so what do I know? :idk:

Summer is uncomfortable warm in spots, but summer doesn't make me depressed. Various other seasons of late seem to effect that end.

Also, i find that i enjoy the weather much more since abandoning my shorts ban. It was perhaps the last remaining vestige i had retained of a time long ago and far away, in which i gave a fuck about how i looked or what i wore.

Only just remembered to share, but I am now the proud owner of an ol' beat to shit Ampeg 4x10. The cosmetic aspects of the cab are absolutely fuckedtoshit in parts, but it is nice and quiet (when I am not playing) and sounds really good so I am content. Snagged it for $200 from the same dude I bought the SWR head from. They sound nice together fo sho. Shit is loud as fuck, rattles the windows like a mothabitch.

I used to hate the summer but now I love it. Girls in hot pants, bbq's, beer, dry bike trails and everyone's happier. What's not to like?

I suppose there's that. I got pretty sunburnt earlier, and discussed this with a very dear friend whom I was out with. Neither of us have shorts and we both tend to wear long sleeves in the summer as well. Mine were rolled up- mistake. But that's the Giving A Fuck thing, I suppose. We're both the sort of girls the gods decided it would be funny to make into boys instead, so fucks will continue to be given. Also, sunburn sucks ass; the being nocturnal and the fact large portions of my person never, ever see the sun contributes slightly.

That is why the baby jesus invented sunscreen snaxo. I got pretty roasted last year looking at tallships over a three day period wif me mum. I still actually have the ghost of the farmertan burn i got then. Cleared off of my face/neck, but i can still see faintly where it was on my arms.

Now if i am going to spend any time out in the fullglare of solar violence, i will use the stuff. I looked solidly like a tomato wifout it.

Feel sorry for you cats: I do not sunburn, I just get dark as fawk. I attribute it to the fact that I spent so much time in Guam and that I am an eighth Mexicano.

The other 4 front people in the pop band are, Italia, Italia, Egyptian/Filipino, Indonesian, then me... Swedish/Slavic.. thankfully the drummer is a ghost.. I am very white up front of this band, because I don't like to tan since I am older than the rest of my members and I too am vain that I don't want to wrinkle like that and I am not a huge fan of sweating if I can help it. Of course I work out a lot so I sweat a lot then, but I prefer indoors and AC if I can have a choice. Not happy with the 4 outdoor beach gigs I have in the next 3 weeks.

This past weekend I was again up in Boston, club loves us there and we will be there a lot this year.

Listening to the basso profondo thing got me working on vocal fry. Doing it death metal style gets a weird upper overtone. It's like the Tuvan Throat Singing thing where they can hit two notes at once, almost. The giant-ass Russian dudes who can hit real notes that low are crazy though. My lowest good, real, singing note seems to be C. Which is fucking low, mind, but quiet. I am not a bass, what with being too light for a baritone and too heavy for a tenor, after all.

I should write some crazy gothrock or metal thing just to record going down the scale. Because you can pitch DM growls.

I'm not that good a singer; I just realized I could do some crazy shit at some point, and have actually started working on doing it.

A-ha, you've only just reminded me: I will have to record myself doing the Tuvan throat singing one of these days, I can get a pretty good whistling overtone with mild controllability now. What a ridiculously useless skill.

That's what doing "proper" DM vox reminds me of. There's the fundamental vocal fry thing, which is loooooow, and an overtone, the pitch of which I can't place. I think that's the thing that makes it creepy and inhuman; it's two notes at once. This is not a scream or deep, gruff yell; it's its own thing.

I am thinking it is probably for the best that I stop doing hallucinogenic drugs for awhile. I dropped again tonight and it was fine (with a couple notably weird hitches) and whatnot, but my brain has been even more notably running amiss. Some fairly weird shit with seeing the faint outline of a "grey" outside of my window a couple times at night and having my vacuum clearly scream "MOTHERFUCKER!" at me the other day in the scariest goddamn voice ever. Mind you, all of these things happen when I am not on acid and usually when I am not even high.

I DUNNO, MAN. I know I always talk about being crazy, but fawk. Sometimes I am just alone in my room thinking that there is a presence in my house that is trying to kill me. It is mildly fucking terrifying, fo sho. It is probably for the best that I will be shipping out for Alaska here soon. Need a break and to get back into shape and gain some weight and feel more healthy.

That makes a whole lot of sense to me, man. I had always assumed it was a sort of dissonance of tones type thing though I thought I had imagined it had multiple overtones.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I've always known I'm too mad to ever dare touch hallucinogens. That is not a thing I ever want to do- I find the thought frightening. The things I experience immediately coming out of sleep are enough, thanks. Waking up to the sound of doorbells that aren't mine or seeing what appears to be a large spider I know isn't real crawling across the wall in my blurry eyes until it goes away- I have bad vision to begin with- and knowing how freaked I get alone at strange hours, yeah, psychedelics would not be for me. My mind is just not designed to touch that shit, ever.

But you are correct about the DM vox. You are not imagining that. I don't know how to describe the science behind it, but it's not a single note, the thing you and I are talking about. Obviously there are multiple ways to do a harsh vocal, some of which are simply a scream or yell. But the thing we are discussing has the vocal cords vibrating well into the range of a bass guitar with at least one prominent overtone, and is what makes it evil, not just some guy yelling. It seems to happen, from what I can tell, playing around with it and a keyboard, when one goes into the "vocal fry" range and just puts some air behind it. This is the register in which your lowest notes automagically start to turn into death metal. Singing a descending D minor scale starting on the low D, it starts to become very much its own thing somewhere between B and A. I can't hit those notes; it's just a raspy wet sounding thing, but I can force my vocal cords to oscillate there. Add volume, get death metal. It's still not that loud, mind you- and I've heard a few people say that; it won't be louder than speaking voice, even though you'll sound like a giant monster. And the upper overtone is creepyweird.

And yeah, totally useless skill. But awesome. I can't sing in it really, only do DM voice. I can sorta force it into notes-ish, and I see why it's called throat singing. That's where the upper part comes from. It sounds very dissonant done up high and is rather uncomfortable. There's the breathy overbit and prominent oscillating lowthing. But it is most obviously two pitches. This is worth some recordingtests I think, later.

I for the longest time assumed that if I ever tried any sort of psychedelic it would be an instant shitstorm. It is really the opposite though, I am already conditioned to dealing with some WTF-level stuff so it is really just sort of enjoyable and funny to take. I did not start having organic hallucinations any time recently either, I have been misperceiving things as some sort of superfucked demonic version of themselves for a long time. It is just, that it is now happening more regularly and I am feeling more estranged and disoriented.

Yeah the whole low note coming from your vocal cords and then forming that throat overtone is a real trip once you can figure the mouth positioning out and how to push in that range. It is just a real weird, unpleasant sound. Practicing that has got me real good at guttural DM vocals. I can do some pretty gnerly garbage disposal noises the past couple years. It is like, this frag grenade of disharmious notes. Like when you hear those freaky tonecluster orchesta sounds they use in horror film scores.

Yeah drugs of that nature really should be kept at a once-a-month policy tops. Personally I stretch it out longer than that usually.
