77 hours of work in 7 days completed. I should actually be outta here by next week, which is quite a bit earlier than the projected date. It is nice to be apart of a quick, quality construction crew. Making these locals look like bitchasses, truly.

Might have a car soon. After all of the Responsible Adult Cars that i was looking at, it looks like i am going to wind up buying: yet another mid-eighties Volkswagen.

Dude should be driving it up here from NJ for me to see over the weekend. I will probably overpay for the thing, mainly because i am kind of retarded about old VWs.

VW's are great. I love them. My dad has a 67 Beetle and I had a late 90's Jetta, which I loved. Solid motherfuckers.

Wish I'd gone for a VW, my Ford has developed a load of new rattles over the past few thousand miles. Its only done about 77k as well.

It is as if i am trying to collect them all though. Already have an '85 and an '88 rusting away in the driveway/parking lot/VW graveyard here. If this one works out over the weekend, i will have an '86(but a solid drivable one at that) to add to the pile.

All i will need is an '87 and an '89, and i will have the full set of second generation GTIs that came with the smaller bumpers.

I was actually considering at a much earlier stage of the carshop process, looking into some aircooled vw stuff. In the end i decided that building and running one would wind up being more expensive than i can really do, and that i wouldn't be able to keep it going reliably enough to use erry day of the year as my onlycar.

But i love those fucking things. Someday i would like to put a flat four FI motor from a subaru in a later super beetle with some suspension mods.

To completely contradict what I previously said about the actual, physical state of Alaska and my job NOT being the thing that bothers me, allow me to elaborate: This place is filled with the most uneducated, obese, ugly motherfuckers I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. I am getting mildly sick of being lightly (still fucking annoyingly) teased about the fact that I do not have a girlfriend and have not for a long time, which apparently means I must be gay. AND THEN: the random fuckheads I walk by on the way to the store during lunch give me the most bizarre looks half the time, which I can't figure out why. Looks like the dude with the VW might be flaking. Suddenly the car has a mysterious "light ticking" so he took the head apart(really?) last night and won't be making it up here today.

I am taking that as a less bold way of saying "actually, i thought about it, and decided that i don't really want to drive four hours to sell this car".

I guess that is okay, the dood started to act a little suspiciously before this installment anyhow.

Just sucks, because it looked like it was going to be a good solution for me.

So of course, now i am going to look into a much sketchier VW that is more local.

Seems like it might be a nice build, but for some reason the dood replaced the rock solid old fuel injection system (which is über simple and i am comfortable working on) with carburetors, which for whatever reason, i totally do not trust.

Also, the car appears to be painted in a matte OD green finish, probably w/ rattlecans?
