I've heard of blending a clean or clean-ish mic'd track with seriously filthy tracks, but never a straight-up DI. Innerestin'. Now, I can only think of one instance of someone actually doing this on record- Lamb Of God on Ashes Of The Wake with a Marshall JTM 45 blended with their Mesas. I'd be curious to hear more examples of this.

Hellyes, those 1st generation cars are fucking class. And Mars Red (aka orange) is easily one of the finest VW colors ever offered.

There was a really nice one of those up for sale here, but i ended up deciding that is was too nice for a car i intend to drive every day, year round. I would have felt like a dick for introducing it to salt/winter.

Around here on the east coast it is actually becoming very difficult to find clean, or even clean-ish cars from this era. Our roads just seem to eat them.

The one i bought was a little funny, a decent car, with a whole pile of parts that really made the deal. Including a built engine by a well known local race shop, which it will hopefully be next year's project to insert and thrash...

It was kind of impressive, the sheer quantity of stuff we were able to fit between this car and my dad's mini, to get everything driven up here. Serious clowncar shit. I wish i had taken a picture, but i was busy trying to get the previous owner to agree to help me carry the engine from the car to my house. (Which he did very kindly agree to. 300lbs, between two people, not too bad. If i had to do it myself, it would have to stay in the trunk of the VW. (Which, gloriously, fit the thing, an extra set of wheels, two interiors, and two different front grilles, plus lots of random odds/ends, actually kind of easily. These things are like stubby little pickup trucks. ))

I sort of hate mixing. When I listen on these shitty little laptop speakers things begin to really bother me, like thinking the bass and rack tom are too loud. But the band seems happy with it so I suppose it's all good. A few things went awry, like a very obvious sticktorim clicking registering loud as fuck in the tom mic. But considering the entire point was to create something with an authentic old school hardcore production vibe I guess it just doesn't really fucking matter, does it?

Chris: that is a hella lotta stuff you managed to cram in there.

To Cam: czech the mixes on laptop speakers as one of your references. Good speakers are never enough- it has to translate on a shitty system too.

If they wanted an oldschool hardcore sound, they should be very happy with that man. Sounds like late eighties era shit.

I would only say that is seems slightly to me like something somewhere is out of phase with the snare. It is cutting well, but i am catching a little vibe of phase wonky there.

It is not bad at all though, and if anything, it makes it sound more like that era anyhow. Same as the loud rack tom thing, IMO.

Was dope, went down to Portland yesterday with them for a barn show they were playing. I received free merch and a guest vocal spot on stage. Was siqqnasty, bruh.

There was a brief moment of doing this that should have been much more intensive, we just used my car.

We actually done did this fairly last minute it was like, OKAY DUDE WE ACTUALLY HAVE TO CALL THIS MIX FINAL AND START BURNING IT ONTO CDS. And my ears were most likely shot from jamming a few hours prior. So things were definitely not ideal.

Shoutyness, though I thinking of slipping in some growls on the next one as that is now my spot it's looking like. It would be a really ridiculous thing to do, and that is why I will do it.

On a random, unrelated note: I am at a pretty distinctly incredible point in my life in which I experiencing the most retarded goddamned influx of people expressing to me how much they appreciate me (whether it's something I wish to be told or not) that is somehow followed by increasing misanthropy and distrust of other humans. People are fucking strange. And unfortunately, I am a people.

This is why you should do it. You're damn near obligated.

It is kind of great though, because I am totally That Guy. Never wear any hardcore or applicable-to-the-scene merch besides Nails and Converge stuff, look and talk like a deranged hobo. So yes, I am definitely excited at the idea of rustling someone's jimmies for a moment.
