Our Mr. newholland has kindly lent me a Rode NT1 (original '90s one, not the 1-A, which is a different and different sounding mic) so that I may have a proper vocal mic* to finish my record with. Many thanks for being awesome.
On the original NT1, from its designer and respected gear modder:

I designed it with super low-noise Hitachi transistors and a Siliconix rf JFET. As you can see it has German Roederstein metal film resistors and Wima polypropylene film caps. As it is there is little to do to improve it. It was built “modified.”
It'll be fun to see how it works out. I'm 'specting "hi-fi".
*- this is not to imply that an old ham radio mic plugged into an SD-1 isn't a proper vocal mic. Because it is. Just, a very different flavour.

Re-arranged I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 for one guitar so my band can cover it. I threw in these silly hammer-ons and I think it's gonna be super rad.

Cool, I do that one, and have done it with one guitar as well. Tell me how you are doing it I have interest in this

I am basically just modifying the solo acoustic version that most people do but rawking it up/dumbing it down in some ways and adding in the oddly timed hammer-ons, shit is kinda hard to play and sing at the same time because of the way I decided to make the thing work. I don't know why my brain just spits out things that make no goddamned sense in the contexts that I use them, atleast in a conventionally pleasant sense.
I get the feeling that is the direct result of having Meshuggahisms/otherweirdmetalbands' ideas engrained into my brain but also really liking whimsical major key catchy stuff as well.

One nice thing about being sick is I get to troll Facebook. Kids having a big argument over pot-legalization? Hello afternoon entertainment.

So being sick has afforded me some time to work on my game.
I have simplified the artwork to 8-bit sprites blown up because I suck at art. If you have ever played Realm of the Mad God, the art and play style borrow heavily from that, and will essentially be a less roguelike (no perma-death, but definite death penalties), single player and story-driven. So far I just have a play-test demo for the basic mechanics, but a lot of the more serious features are getting fleshed out.
For example, the map is randomly generated so every time you play you should have a different map with a different amount of enemies to match. Sometimes the map will have more or less enemies. Eventually, the enemy types will also be randomized within the constraints of whatever biome is being used (Forest creatures for forest, snow for artic, cave for subterranean etc...) and the maps will be procedurally generated to link biomes (so you can enter a cave from a forest). Also, the map generator is still very basic, and I am going to improve upon it little by little with every version of the game. So far it just creates rooms that do not intersect, and then links the rooms one by one using at least one horizontal and one vertical path. I want to start adding different algorithms for different biomes. So the current one really lends itself more to a classic dungeon, where something using the Cell Automata algorithm (http://www.roguebasin.com/index.php?tit ... ike_Levels) would be better for caves, and a mixture of both would suit itself for forests. That all takes a lot of time and testing though.
Also, after the Unity player loads, there will be a short period of load time where the screen does nothing. I haven't coded a loading page yet and the dungeon generator takes some time to do it's thing. AND I meat to add an enemy counter display at the top under the health bar, but forgot so fuck you.

Also the dungeon generator is slow because it is spawning all the tiles while loading, next version I will have it create a basic map legend and then spawn the tiles from that data. I kinda cowboy-coded the generator as I've never built something like that, but the algorithm works decently well.

I kinda dig it too. I am really considering not doing any sort of animation at all, but I kinda need to figure that out now because if I want to implement animation it will be a lot easier at this stage in the development. I need to toy around with how I'd make it work and see how much of a pain in the ass it is.

Worked all day, came out with a new iteration of the game. All sorts of fun new stuff. Three playable classes, and now you can run! Also an actual start menu, and a faster dungeon generator. Still no win condition, cause I keep forgetting to write the like two lines of code necessary (which is why you normally outline feature implementation instead of just making it up as you go), but that is going to implemented in v0.0.3 for sure.
So, Controls are almost identical:
WASD = Move Shift = Run! Click to Aim/Shoot
All the classes have different amounts of health, can move different speeds and use different weapons.

I seem to be getting better at guitar every day and it is sick.
On Saturday we opened a stinky ass metalcore show that went fairly decent. People there smelled awful and it is just the last sort of place I would ever want to be. It is kind of weird how nobody that's not a total fucking weirdo listens to that kind of stuff now and all of the hip kids listen to hardcore and whatnots.
As an aside, It is getting sort of bizarre how picky I am about intonation versus the past. FUCKING EVERYTHING SOUNDS OUT OF TUNE TO ME. That is, unless the shit is basically perfect. I don't mind hearing other people's music being a little wonky tuning wise, but when it is coming from my amp I go insane. And so, it is time to take my guitar to get setup once again.

Get the Peterson Strobe tuner app. Holy shit. Makes a huge difference. You think you're picky? This thing is out and out fucked up trying to get something in tune, but once you get it down, it's really awesome. I have it on my ipad, wish I had waited and got it for the iPhone, but nonetheless, really great for tuning/intonation.

Noted.
Pretty funny, jammed this cover of I Want You Back I have been working on with Landon for the first time today. For whatever reason, I introduced it to him playing it really fast (to the point where he just thought I had wrote it) and he started playing drums like this over the top of it:
Sounds soooo fucking rad. With the way I arranged the chords and rhythm the shit sounds EXACTLY like a pop punk song.

Looks like the motherfuckers i bought(or i guess, attempted to buy) the MCA SP1s from don't have any intention to ship the things or respond in any way to my attempts to contact them. Hello to my very first Paypal dispute ever.
I do think they can be had on Amazon for relatively cheap though. We were actually talking about these at work the other day.

Yarr, now it looks like lots of places have them in now. When i ordered these in december, i went to this place because they were one of the few that said they had them in stock for the proper price of about $50 a pop. Welp, i guess they didn't have them in stock after all. Oh well, the dispute was an effective course to get refunded, anyhow. Now to acquire the damn things elsewhere. :fistshake:
