Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yeah i have seen those. The PT2399 is really a cool chip. Cheap but surprisingly capable/flexible, and which even in through-hole flavor is a very compact form factor for its abilities. They also make it in SMD form, which the goofy my games get with the thing might be an avenue that i would consider getting into... On its own you get a nice tape-y/lossy decay. Put a small pile of them of them together and you get the Belton Brick reverb. That covers a lot of ground between the two for a $0.50 chip. Fuckwith/deviatefrom the application notes setup and you can make it do some really screwy shit. It has kind of a large amount of interesting/terrible distortion things going on. The attempt to get longer cleaner delays out of it draws some interesting effects too. I really enjoy playing with it, especially as a bit of a change of pace, from my never-ending saga to locate or design the perfect overdrive pedal for the (stupid) way that i use guitars.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I hope to screw around with them once I've bought a house and I have a good workshop for such tinkerings. Have you played with the LM386 for dirt? It can cover a wide range of bases with a very simple circuit. A favourite of mine being the sonic titan.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I love the 386, especially with something mosfet-y or jfet-y as an input buffer. You can get that nice thing where you have the gain maxed out and kind of dark/fuzzy, but then have it roll off with the volume knob to like a nice sparkling clean sound. Which is kind of what i am aiming for in my ideal dirt. My favorite 386 distortion that i messed with was actually the Krank Distortus Maximus circuit, with the amp tone stack scaled for more pedal-friendly values. I think the best one of those i built also actually used my modified Vox style tone stack in place of the TMB marshall style too. That is more a preference of mine for how i like the knobs to behave though. There are just certain aspects of the specific character of the way the 386 transitions from that clean to clipping that i am not 100% into. Maybe 85-90%. So i keep looking.

Any particular reason? I'm curious what you feel the difference between the two is.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
None particularly. The Roadster can do the tremo thing plus more. Except for tremolo, which ironically I never use. Also selectable wattage and FX loop (all I use is a noise gate in the loop for high gain) for each channel. And some other things.
Oh and my tremoverb was fucking up. It has been unreliable from day one but never failed tragically. It limped through our last show but I'm not risking it anymore. And I can snag a Roadster for $1500 used locally from a reputable guitar tag, with NOS rectifer tubes ....

So about a year ago myself and the guys I lived with got blind drunk and recorded a pop grunge song: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzvYNc ... sp=sharingWe never got to take the concept further unfortunately as it would have been an incredibly fun band to play in

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
So I'm in NYC for a few days. Visiting the wife now that she is working for Nickelodeon. It's cool, and also cold. Very, very cold. I might visit less in the winter times from now on. All you guys who normally live in the cold harsh north, I simply don't understand you. I'll take my Raleigh winters anytime. There are some things I really do like though. Public transit for one. Also the fact that there is a small market/grocery and/or liquor store within walking distance of everywhere. Give the people what they want and such. The ability to not have to own a car is pretty awesome. Barbara lives in LES Manhattan, which is evidently a pretty hip joint these days. So, there are all sorts of awesome bars and such around.
Also I got the Roadster right before I left town, so I haven't had a chance to play it yet. But it is literally brand new, hang tags and all. Bought it from a guitar tech in the next town over. He was cool, except he got drunk the next day, mistook my phone number for that of a telemarketer and called me randomly shouting obscenities. I texted him after he hung up about it. It was awkward.

The cold part: Suck it up. I noticed that in NY also. And every shop has a sandwich counter. All we ate was sandwiches.

I am getting my tax return in a couple days. I will be ordering a Sytek MPX-4aii and a Warm Audio Tone Beast ASAP. Heaven help me.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
That gives you... Nine channels of outboard premaplification, of various flavors? The Warm stuff may be the best deal going in pro audio these days. They make an 1176 and a Pultec EQ now, too. I think the comp is $600 new and the EQ is $700, but don't quote me on that.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
my girlfriend picked up this thing for 250 yesterday. It felt like highway robbery. Its a Fatman itube 182. The original Chinese KT 94s (which, like Chinese KT-100's are just KT88s with a different bottle) were burnt, so the dude put in FRESH Sovtek kt88's. Its fucking glorious. Its a stereo which basically uses two independent single ended Class A amps with KT88's with 2x18 watt output. Now our obstacle is finding fullrange hifi speakers that are 4 or 8 ohms. Why must everything be 6 ohms these days.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
that's an interesting rig. gad though.. why kt's? of all the bottles i'd put in a home listening rig.. i don't think i'd ever use kt88s. too brash and solid statey. if you have octals and efficient speakers.. el34's are loud! but honestly-- you can run most tube friendly speakers on a good 2-3 watts pretty doggone loud. 18... gadzoooks. but you haveta find 'em. careful matching your speakers though-- modern crossovers can really fuck up the sound of a tube amp-- even 2 way 'regular' 4th orders can have multiple impedance bumps that just aggravate tube amps into sounding kinda gross-- so if you can find something older like AR 4ax's or old advents or klipsches from the 70's... really any number of old speakers that look like brown boxes you'll be way better off. guaranteed, you won't need 18 watts per channel to drive 'em either (!). that's awesome though-- i dunno the builder, but i LOVE tube amps.. oh, but the road you are on.... if i can help at all holler-- i spent a long time working with these doggone things, so yell if you need anything. they are fussy bitches.. but so worth it!

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Oh dude, it works perfectly. And it sounds glorious. KT88's work very very well in Class A. Fatman has been around for years and years though. This amp is a 2007 model, my dad has a 2004 model, and i'm sure they have some relation to TL audio equipment, as some of their products share the same name and logo. My big problem is setting it up for 4 or 8 ohms, as most drivers these days are 6. But anyway, here's the speakers i'm looking at for my lady. Probably in bookshelfs, MAYBE in floor stands. Woofers: http://www.parts-express.com/tang-band- ... r--264-874Tweeters: http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-aud ... r--275-140And probably a home made crossover with a 2000hz crossover point. Thoughts?

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
So my main guitar is made by a company called Sublime Guitar Company (or SGC as they go by.) The VP/Head of Artist Relations just emailed me to offer me Artist Pricing on a new one. So that's awesome, and now I'm getting one of these: And replacing the bridge pup with a mini hum. Also I saw these today: http://www.thesnapdrive.com
