 Re: The Chris Thread
Awesome Valentines card.
And if i find myself in Holland, i am staying the fuck out of their swimming pools. Actually, they probably just do the resuscitation normally if it isn't a female, so i would probably be okay. I'd be bringing my floaties with me just in case though.

Was attempting to organize my pile of bookmarked bullshits, and came across these buried in there: Truly, apocalypse warnings are some of my favorite types of signage.

 Re: The Chris Thread
I actually find month/day/year to be much more logical. I also prefer the royal-body-parts-or-alternately-whatever-the-fuck-they-were-smoking-at-the-time style measurement system though.

 Re: The Chris Thread
Re: dates, there's a valid argument to be made there re: how things are spoken, at least in English. February 6th, 2012 does abbreviate quite nicely to 2/6/12. Re: the seemingly arbitrary- you would, wouldn't you, for the sake of being contrary. Now... What's yer take on Celsius?

 Re: The Chris Thread
Beyond the simple fact that month/day/year puts them in ascending order of possible maximum value(i.e. 12 months<30-ish days<infinite years(or at least 2012 of them anyhow).
It ALSO makes more sense if you consider that months are not really arbitrary units, but rather indicate a specific slot of days within a year/season. A specific month is in fact, a sort of shorthand for a description of a much larger value than a specific day is. Knowing that something is the sixth day doesn't have any real meaning unless coupled with the sixth day of WHAT, whereas, using the calendar as it is drawn out currently and commonly used worldwide, referring to an event occurring in the second month of ANY year, reveals a certain specifically useful knowledge, i.e. the cold season, the rainy season, the drought season, etc, while ALSO referring to a much more specific section of that particular season, all in one word.
In short, it sets the range much more efficiently, offering:
1. First, that he following words will be a DATE, as given by the hint offered by the first part being the name of a month, rather than a disembodied number, which could easily be the first part of any one of a number of descriptions, (and which will carry no useful meaning until the list gets to the month part of it anyhow). 2. The statement of specific month indicates what general section of the year the thing is/will be, as a convenient side effect.
Just makes more sense to me.

 Re: The Chris Thread
As for Celsius, quite arbitrarily, the numbers just seem too low to me.
I would not be against how ridiculous weather repoarts would get if the doods had to switch over to Kelvin however, what with it being not-really-at-all suited to the temperatures that normal dumb humans generally need to be familiar with.
That is pure contrarianity(which is (obviously) the Crazy version of contrariety) though.

 Re: The Chris Thread
I see the logic there. I like the seasonal bit, too- it helps frame the event in a broader context.

 Re: The Chris Thread
There is a greater degree of variance within Farhenheit- 32º-212º gives finer gradation. I like Celsius as a concept, but it's easier for me to think in Farhrenheit, having grown up in The States. Now, distance and weight, it's easy enough for me to think in both. Kelvin would be fucking awesome. 'Cause right now (after quickly consulting a conversion chart) I'd say it's about 275 K out, not accounting for wind.

 Re: The Chris Thread
Oooh, Rankine looks pretty sweet too. Hmm. Maybe that would be the one. It is like Kelvin but with the degrees from Farehnheit. That would make it just about 495º R where you are.

 Re: The Chris Thread
It is settled then. Burn all of the current textbooks. We are going Rankine. Mandatory usage by all, enforced via mass execution, most likely.
