Oh and I brought home a Code 25 for a quick play yesterday, pretty decent for a practice amp actually. Better than the blackstar thing I have.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Chris, I feel like either you are interested in lockpicking, or maybe I am just filling in gaps and am assuming that is something you would be into.
Anyway, TIL lock picking sets and "burglary tools" are legal in NY, as long as I don't commit a crime and the state can't prove intent to burglarize folk. Soooo, I think I might pick up a set of tools and start practicing.
As for maps jam ... I am not 100% sure where to get started. I think we as a group have separated a bit stylistically in our music, which could lead to some absolutely fantastic results.
What if I came up with like, a really shitty song with a basic chord progression and a vocal melody? TBF I guarantee any of you are a better singer than me, but I figure maybe I could plant the seed? Then we just build upon that?

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Oh yeah, i fucked around with that stuff a bit. Made my own mini picks, have another set of chinese cheapos. I thought that maybe manhattan had a different rule on picks, but i don't remember exactly. I do remember being more concerned for some reason a ways back when i had mine there. For the most part, that is the rule around here too though. The exception is automotive picks which you have to be a locksmith to legally possess around here, and probably there too. Getting locked things to open without a key is an extremely satisfying mechanical puzzle. I haven't been doing it as much lately, but i should get back into doing it more.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
That would be a fine way to start Sir. a discovery while we are talking about singing.... out of necessity, I found that I should sing way above my bass/baritone range that I was trying to sing before. my money making band needed a a male singer that could hit up there in range and I was filling in the part and evidently I sing well up there so... here I am singing pop material...

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Hey, it worked for Axl Rose. A natural tenor, he is not. Range training is a bitch. My natural singing voice doesn't really correspond to my speaking voice- my singing voice is much lower. (Bass-baritone here; I don't have a true bass's power and projection down there, but I do have the range.) I had to learn to hit the high notes. Spent a lot of time singing scales whilst playing along on guitar or keys, and singing AIC and Soundgarden at stupid volumes whenever possible. It worked. It's a thing you can very much train yourself to do, if you spend enough time annoying your neighbors/significant other/cat/etc. ...and that just makes me want to participate in a Mapz Jam™ for the sake of dropping some Very Stupid Lyrics Indeed into the middle of it.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
So this happened on my lunch hour today. Couldn't be arsed faffing with all the JVM switches so didn't bother, but the rest sounded so good, even the 900 isn't too bad. 100w 800 up loud is pure heaven though. And the mini jube combo more than held its own, might be my next amp. http://i.imgur.com/U2M5BDx.jpgImma play the plexis tomorrow

Hott Shitt. A friend of mine had a 900 back in the day, that i fucking loved the sound of. One of the main reasons that a hotrod marshall is one of my future build plans.

This is the dual reverb one which I don't really like as much as the others. Just seems to sound a bit thinner and buzzier.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Today's findings - the Astoria amps are severely underrated, the dual channel one into a creamback sounds awesome. As does the 1973x 18w combo. Pure rock.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I have been debating the financial implications of acquiring a creamback or two for my experiments, for sure.
Kind of seems like the perfect speaker for marshall amps in 1x12 format cabs.
Seems very "actual old vintage greenback" flavor. 65-75w though, which is perfect for pretty much anything 50w or less, which is all i ever really buy or build anyhow. They are just slightly too expensive for me right to to just be a done deal yet though. Probably have to make do with the (very different-sounding) G12H30 or regular old V30 i have,or the time being.
Astoria seems cool in its sounds. I don't like its looks so much though. They went for that "modern boutique" style aesthetic. I don't like the way 65amps ones look either. Though they do sound amazing to me.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Never encountered an Astoria in the wild; our two local GCs don't have 'em, and I haven't run into one at the better sort of smaller places. I'm definitely curious, despite not really being a Marshall guy by temperament. (I am kicking myself for not playing the JTM45 and Jubilee reissues when I had the chance, though.)
IIRC our pal Dan newholland used the Creambacks on his band's new record, if that's anything, rather than his usual EVM/C90 setup. I'm wondering how they compare to G1265s; Chris from Garda has a quad of vintage ones, and those things are fantastic, at least, paired with things that say "Mesa" on them.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I don't care much for the single channel astoria as it's too low gain for me but the blue dual channel was just right. Big fat vintage rock tones. Imma take a tubescreamer to boost it next time I get a chance, I reckon that'll make it perfect for the heavier stuff. If they priced them better I reckon they'd have really taken off, they're really nice amps with good features.

relevant to the above conversations: Marshall SL-X, Bogner shiva, going into a seismic audio 2x12 with WGS Vintage and Creamback clones

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Noice! I still need to have a go on an SL-X, we must have one lying around somewhere!
Saw The Bronx live on Monday, one of the best live acts I've seen! I had a photo pass so was right up at the front, best view in the house.
