Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
So who makes correctly dimensioned cabs? Is what manufacturers like Marshall and Mesa make well researched or does one have to dig deeper?

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
My homie and Ian and I stared a metallic band. More like grind really, atleast in terms of structures. But there's black metal and slam and punk riffs, songs clock about a minute. It is basically what I/we want to hear from a metal band at this point in my life, no patience. Should have a demo soon-y.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Very generically, knowing the size/quantity of the speakers and the frequency range of the intended source, nerds can calculate the spaces required internally to achieve certain sonic results. Audio waves have lengths, sound travels at a speed, air has a known basic density, and moving objects like speaker cones will compress air in a known way. That almost doesn't matter though, unless you want to make a cab that sounds like no other cab. Most people actually want just the opposite. They want a cab that sounds exactly like the cab they want, usually with a very specific brand/model in mind. What i am on about fixing here, is just that before i knew this, i figured that it was all pretty simple, want more bass, make it bigger, not realizing that the exact flavor of "more bass" might not be something that i would want. Like maybe the bass that i wind up with is of a high enough level that it actually cancels out other frequencies(ala comb filtering) that i would rather retain. It is certainly possible to just have at a cab, blindly hack something together, and come up with something great. I remember reading that Jim Marshall only came up with the 4x12 because it was the smallest form that he could fit four 12" speakers in, four being needed as amps hit the 100w mark, as the speakers he had available for the task were at that time limited to 25w per, handling. bI.e. that the sound of the actual cab was kind of a happy accident. Personally though, i suspect that there was a bit more to it and that someone somewhere actually did some designing for the cabinet at some point. tl/dr, it is a way better idea to copy something that sounds the way you want than to just start hacking up plywood and slapping shit together and seeing what comes out. That is all i am saying. There are a lot of nice cabs out there to choose from. Just the start:

Looking forward to that demo Cam.
Now Chris, let me tell you about the tonal benefits of a rich, verdant astroturf covering on your speaker cabinet.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Chris' post.... "Just the start:" I could see Chris getting measurement for every cabinet ever made in the history of man. Actually very interesting, I am now so enamored with my Bogner 1x12 everything else sounds thin. So I guess a port 1x12 needs to be in your list. If you want measurements, I will hook a brother up and get those to you directly including port location and hole size

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
You know i would be interested in that biz, T. The projects that i have planned will actually free up a single 12" speaker that will need to go in something. What type of speaker does that cab have innit?
That list(which is indeed a bit longer now) kind of got out of hand, mainly as i started to look harder and harder for any confirmation that my hack 2x12 might be close enough to the dimensions of some other, any other, cab, that i could simply modify it to work better. The closest one wound up being the egnater tweaker 2x12, but what i heard of that didn't sound all that great, so instead i decided to do a more aggressive rework, and will attempt to make that one into something more like a matchless 2x12 cab.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Perfect, as i actually do have a V30 here that could be sent this build's way. When you take a look at it, in addition to the location, i would also be curious about the diameter of the port. Thanks T!

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
So, this happened over the weekend. Buncha crappy gear. Even the Epi LP and the PRS SE 7-string have Burstbuckers and Bareknuckles in them, respectively. We don't fuck around. Actually, scratch that. We fuck around. A lot. With everything. Marshall cabs are as follows: Weber Alnico Blues and Silvers; Eminence Private Jacks, vintage G1265s. Mills is vintage G1280s. Electradyne is a C90. Jet City cabs are a V30 and two H30s. '72 Fender has THD 10s; Musicman has a JBL... K130? 15. And the giant weird thing on the floor is a Maestro analog synth from the '70s meant to be used with woodwinds and brass. Has an 1/8" mic input.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I use a sealed car subwoofer box for a 2x12 cab. It sounds magnificent.
T'was an experiment that turned out good enough that my Marshall 1936 sits empty in a closet.
Low end for days, but still has all the midrange and high end you'll ever need. Projection is good too as the speakers are front mounted on the baffle.

Look over there!
*steals the green burst custom*
wtf.. where did that sexy little bitch come from?
Speaking of that, the original band made a throw back 80's video with scantily clad ladies and all...
you gents want to see a little one of them?

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
The greenburst LPC is Chris's... And it's a fake. He got scammed on Craigslist. It's a really good fake though; even the serial number matches up... Just... Not for that guitar in that finish. He called Gibson. Everything corresponds to what it should be, 'cept there was an issue with the pickups, and he opened it up, and... Well, he kept the thing, and didn't sue the guy for scamming him- no evidence; dude claimed he thought it was legit- and put proper Gibson pickups in it. It's not a bad guitar, though. We keep meaning to bust it out live, but never do. One of the goals is to play all the two-guitar songs with matching guitars types (Strats, LPs, Teles, PRSes... I almost said "etc.", but that's pretty much all we have. We're oddly traditionalist in that regard.) just to be douchebags about it, for the visual. If it's anything, the tobacco burst LP is circa 1980 and has actual PAFs in it, stock. Doesn't see a lot of live use these days, but is one of those that winds up on every record it's remotely associated with, for the obvious reasons. The P90 Melody Maker has been seeing a lot of use lately as well. That is a fine guitar. Gibson has really stepped up their game in the past few years and the QC issues everyone bitched about in the not-too-distant past seem to have been rectified. ...and I'm sure no one would turn down your retro '80s video.

Joey, just saw Grimm Jack is playing at Arlene's Grocery, which is like a very quick walk from my place. So I think I might come out to that show

I approve of this concept. Always wanted to go to one of these since I knew it was a thing. My favorite karaoke experience- not that I've had many- was doing a very drunk version of Head Like A Hole at a lesbian bar.

Oh yeah some of my wife's coworkers have been trying to go do the live band karaoke thing. Sounds interesting.

the one at Arlene's is pretty well known. Jim Carey has been known to attend that one.
