Damn Tor.

Though i guess that is the price one occasionally pays for being a proper ninja on the side.

Gonna have to rock it Iommi Style.

Tendon injuries have become my absolute least favorite injuries.

well nice to hear you can get a few things done.

Recording... I have been in the studio with a few songs with the original band with a legit engineer producer. I always get intimidated when it comes to lead time. I play what I play. Im a good guitarist. not great. I'm not going to change the world, but when it comes to recording, that shit is down... permanent so I freak myself out.

Just what I do.

got some leads I'm happy with and I will post soon.

mean while the ninja life has struck again and I ruptured the tendon on my left ring finger.

as a guitar player, you sometimes need that finger.

thats a lie.

you need it for everything.

so I amin a splint for 6-8 more weeks... gigs coming up including a big one at Foxwoods. so going to do the best I can.

I injured my ring finger when I first started playing pretty badly and developed the habit of using my middle or pinky for just about everything most people use their ring finger for. Except power chords but that didn't hurt as bad.

Sorry to hear, Tor. That is definitely some kind of BS.

so last weekend I went to see Samantha fish, blues chick who can somehow wear heels and hit a pedalboard. the only one I know who could do this was our own Snaxie.

This weekend I saw Kings X who can still bring the rawk like all get out. I prefer Dug's tone and oooomf with the SVT instead of the Tech21 set up but he has to pay bills too.

Ty is using Orange for the second tour in a row. no matter what he plays through it always sounds like Ty.

Hopefully Snax is off high-heeling some pedalboards on the reg these days, living life, occasionally pondering generally, whether to choose Nikita Khruschev, or an Allosaurus.

Mme. La Snaxocastra is alive and well, fear not.

Symphony in E minor, third movement, intro sketch.

I suppose I look a little different now. But not by much, and I doubt, realistically, this surprises anyone. A few on here already know. The going got weird, the weird turned pro, and I disappeared off into the aether to do a thing. It is what it is; I am who I am. C'est la vie. All the limits I set for myself are gone at this point- not that I appeared to have many to begin with!

So I suppose I've reinvented myself a bit. And if someone doesn't approve, well, too damn bad. Not that I think anyone here would care.

EDIT: Oh, buggrit, I may or may not get my handwritten short score sketch of page three of the first movement to load. Minus the saxes, drum kit, and all the other fun things I've added because limitations? At this point in my life, really? Screw it, I'm a full-time girl now and a composer of contemporary classical music- my pedals are, alas, in storage 500 miles away.

Life is... Interesting.

Concert pitch score, for anyone who's wondering, as I can't be bothered transposing a sketch no one else will read. I still won't write key signatures for horns and trumpets, though, out of force of habit.

SNAX! Good to see/hear ye!

Moar double kicks needed in classical, absolutely.

*curtsies*

I'd decided to work in traditional form, structure-wise, here, and had set corresponding limits for the orchestration; I wasn't even going to use auxiliary winds. I tossed out the bits about the orchestration, but kept the form. I'm considering adding Hammond in sections, though it's a different context than I am used to working in, and I'm not sure if that would be reliably available. If I can call for tuba doubling cimbasso, though- apparently acceptable standard practice- I can call for Hammond and double kick, as long as I make a note at the beginning of the score that the drum kit part is expected to be performed with a double pedal or two kick drums. Bit of a different musical world, but I am enjoying it and its community so far.

I've been toying around with bringing back the intro minor key theme from the slow movement with a blast beat under it, Morbid Angel-style, with fortissimo brass: Andante Con Moto intro test

...and yes, it's in E minor because I wrote the majority of it on guitar.

Apparently being a mostly tonal composer is acceptable again in that world now. Not that I'm not influenced by soundtrack-y stuff, death metal, jazz, etc., as well as earlier atonality. I wanted to be melodic, mostly, here, and I think it works? Though the fugue in the scherzo does have some bitonality going on as I'm putting B minor on top of E minor; it doesn't work if I do it in the strictly traditional manner.

I'll see what comes of this. Of course, the chances of it ever getting performed by something other than my sequencer are slim, but still, it's a thing, and I intend on producing a handwritten full score for archival purposes and simply as an art object. I'll just dump my Logic files into notation software for any performances of things that may or may not ever occur for anything I write anyhow. I can handle the layout easily enough, and still prefer to work in a DAW for ease of programming; it's what I'm used to, while many contemporary composers work in something like Sibelius with NotePerformer for the audio. I suppose I work more like a soundtrack composer in that regard, but I am and forever shall be a studio nerd. Even if most of my studio is far away. I did bring a few instruments, my interfaces, 11R, Hackintosh, and assorted random gear. Just... Only as much as would fit in the vehicle.

Oh: and I used the box from a mascara as a straightedge for drawing the barlines on the score.

And if you don't know what a cimbasso is, you should:

Image

It's an upright valve contrabass trombone, usually played by tuba players, and became popular in film scoring some time back, and is now becoming a standard double for orchestral tubists. An old Italian opera thing that got revived. Quality stuff. Often used for low brass accents, more assertive tone than the soft roundness of the traditional tuba.

A friend of mine has a normal contrabass trombone, and that in and of itself is pretty cool.

*hugs back*

I missed you guys. I kinda had to poof out of existence for a bit for personal reasons; I didn't really know how to handle a complex situation. But I'm back, and slightly enhanced, to be more enhanced in the future. Yeah, Snaxie's the lady she always referred to herself as now. Well, partially. It's a process. So far, precisely no one has been surprised; the reactions I've gotten are things like "I always knew", and "what took you so long?" So it's Erica and she/her now. Shrug. I doubt anyone here cares, because see above.

I make noises, still. Different noises, sometimes, but that was mostly an accident. I wanted to hear instrumental things, so that's what I'd been listening to. I started writing on my beloved old black Strat, and that's what started coming out. So I just ran with it and dove in headlong. It's not as if I'd never done it before, and it's always been an obvious influence in my work, but without my amps and studio gear, it went from a technical exercise to something that seemed pretty natural. Why not? It was liberating to leave the limitations I set for myself behind and embrace both myself and my music authentically. It's been a difficult ride, but in the end, I am in a better place.
