I don't get it..?
:idk:

He seems like a real talented sumbitch to me.
This concert is nuts.

It wasn't really clear to me how badass U2 were until I started paying attention to the first three albums specifically.
Great stuff.

He knows how to use what he has very well. We can't all be shred kings, some have to write, some have to make ambient music. Some use a lot of echo. He's very good at what he does.

He can play a little. (IMO, he acquitted himself quite well in It Might Get Loud. :idk: ) The Edge/Kirk Hammett/Kurt Cobain/Jack White/Jimmy Page/etc. Sucks crowd comes across to me like a bunch of Intarwebs Wannabes/Never-Was-es.

I could personally give a rat's :eekass: about how many shred licks someone knows anyhow. If I want to hear something that sounds like me practicing, I'll record me practicing. :idk:

Posting the Edge in his prime is not a fair mode of argument, IMO.

But really I have a big bone to pick with their singer/philanthropist-turned-Apple-mascot

Yeah, probably the worst thing about The Edge is the fact he plays with Bono.

His name is definitely horrible..
But to call this "in his prime" isn't technically all that accurate.
This is 4 years before Joshua Tree which is often considered their "landmark album" or whatever.
This concert is of U2 still being a pretty young band.

I think think their War album was very good.

If we're talking about his abilities, landmark album does not equal him in his prime in regards to said abilities, but his prime in regards to the popularity of his output. :monocle:

It's worth noting though, that I didn't watch a single video in this thread and haven't listened to all their albums, old or new. :mexican:

Of the hardcore U2 fans I know, that is the exact period he was in his prime. Back in their old school Irish punk days. I have listened to a good bit of U2 and have to agree. I think the amount The Edge exhibits his abilities is indirectly proportionate to how many people are going to hear it. In "It Might Get Loud" her more than just held his own next to Page and White. In fact, IIRC he even called out everyone for playing a wrong chord on a cover they were jamming. Then again, there were parts where he would just play one chord then fuck with a wah and an echo and be like SEE HOW AWESOME THIS IS, NOW HERE IS HOW MUCH IT SUCKS WITHOUT EFFECTS.

And that is his thing. He falls into that category with Morello for heavy effect use. Some people call it innovative, others say it's a crutch for a lack of ability. The Edge, as he himself will admit, is an effects guy. He uses those effects to create a sonic landscape for Bono to sing over. He has figured out what works for him, and he goes with it. It's not the most impressive thing ever, but it sounds good enough.

Oh yeah, have you also seen his touring rig? Completely over the top unnecessary.

http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/ ... -223342/10 And that is just one page, there is one more for everything else. (Pages 10 an 11 have the gear list, the rest is an interview with his tech).

Motherfucker has over 43 guitars TO TOUR WITH. At this point, it almost is a crutch for him.
