and tells me they play blues rock. I figured I'd go check it out last night, expecting them to be terrible. Holy shit the the lead guitarist fucking tears it the fuck up and and the drummer is really solid. Gonna have a show in the next month. I'm just stoked to make loud ass music again

Originals, or covers? Playing bass can be a blast. |

agreed, bass can be super fun, sit back in the pocket, and just groove. |

Originals. The songs are actually pretty good so far. Apparently the bass player I'm replacing could technically play bass but just didn't understand the mindset of a bassplayer in that type of band, i.e. you aren't trying to stand out 24/7, you just need to chill and groove. Shit's fun and requires zero work ![]() I think the most surprising thing is that the singer is a really relaxed, non-shit-head type of guy |

I'll post a vid or recording if it pops up. I can't really tell what the singer sounds like yet but the guitarist just tears it up on the solos. I just gotta learn to slap for a couple sections

By the way, I kinda feel like experimenting with a distorted bass sound for parts, would an ocd work if I just used the drive and not the boost portion

I like ODs for bass. You don't need much dirt to make it sound dirty. I even like tubescreamers for it, though technically they shouldn't work well due to the large amount of low end they cut. I like what they do to the sound though. But yeah, the OCD should work pretty well for a bassdirt, i think. |

A rolled back Muff makes a nice woofy distortion/fuzz. I too like tube screamers if you want a tight punchy OD. I also like the distortions from GK amps. |

A buddy of mine uses a Fulltone GT-500 for his bass dirt. Either side, really. Depends on what he's playing. |

That's what I use when I do my occasional bassing gig. I used it for some recorded bass tracks in Garda as well.
They have a nice grit to them. I like to get them a bit edgy and hit them with the OCD for proper dirt. |
