...that i went through phases of music most people went through in around 15 years in like 4?

Example - Age 15, a guy'smfavorite band is The Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me The Horizon, and other scene bands. As they get older, they discover In Flames. By 21 or so, they have moved onto "true" metal like Death, Suffocation etc. Then, in another 5-10 years, they start to enjoy more "arty" forms of metal and expand their tastes.. By another 5 years or so, they have moved on to different forms of Rock.

Just an example of many people's musical tastes and how they progress. Not saying everyone is like this, but from what i read, people start liking shitty music, then move on to metal, then to softer music as they get older.

Now, take a look at me;
5th grade - discovered Bullet For My Valentine, and they became one of my favorite bands. The next year or so, I was listening to Underoath, TDWP, BMTH and other "scene" bands, mostly christian. Then, in 6th grade, my brother gave me a cd for In Flame's Lunar Strain and it blew my mind. I loved it. This took me to bands like Death and other melodic death bands, though I still listened to scene music. By 7th grade, I was all into proggy, fusion death metal, and techinical shit like Cynic, Atheist, and Necrophagist, and also still Death. End of 7th, I dabbled in hip hop like biggie and tupac but not much. 8th Grade, Death and most melodeath/prog death were still my favorite bands, and it continued this way until the end of 8th grade and in summer, when i started a Sublime phase. This was around the time I had tried weed and started smoking it on a semi-regular basis. Over the beginning of summer, I was basically listening to straight Ska, Reggae, Sublime shit etc because it was good beach music and great vibes for summer and for being baked (x Great memories. Then, towards the end of summer, went into a brief older Foo Fighters phase, then started listening to Pink Floyd which brought me into my psychedelic rock phase. Over the next few months, that was all i listened too besides the occasional Mastodon, Tool, and, rarely, Death. I also went into a very long Beatles phase, and listened to them straight through the month of December 2010. Now, I am still in my psych rock phase and I am beginning to find I have found my genre, finally. I just find it funny that I grew out of metal so quickly before most even get into it. The point of this thread? I have no fucking idea, just felt compelled to post for some reason. Carry on, gentlemen :dukes:

your absorption if different type if music is fast, but too fast. The Beatles for a month. Well at least in the beginning of their career they wrote 2:30 songs. Your listening catalog is diverse, but I would spend a lot of time learning these styles as well. Write me 3 Beatlesque songs and let's see how much is really sticking. You have great talent and I think it's great you're listening to so much music, but until you listen to an album so much you're sick of it then go back later (years) and get back into it again and re-discover it all over. Then you have really been into a band/style. You will know what I mean in a few years.

Also, divulge to us what made your night so great.

QFM'fnT.

Sometimes, also, you discover things weren't really as cool as maybe you thought. :lol:

Also, tor speaks teh truth. I spent at least a year in or so in high school just obsessed with Sgt. Peppers, and can only now stand to listen to it again. The same goes for Modest Mouse's The Moon and Antartica. I had The Pixies' Surfer Rosa and Doolittle on the same CD, and managed to wear it out through my car stereo.

But it's good to try everything. I was into Ska (and still listen to Streetlight Manifesto) for a couple of years, thank god I moved on to other forms of music. You will probably feel the same about metal in the end.

Fuckyeah, ska AND pineapple are awesome.

I like the second wave, some of the third, and pretty much any form of pineapple.

Oh, nothing much, just hung with two of my best friends and went on an adventure when we saw this chick i knew and her bf. she was rolling and faintedm, so we had to take care of her... lesson learned? Stay away from Ecstasy... Was planning to try it later in lfie, but nao not so sure.

Also, great fucking advice, I have been doing shitloads of songwriting, but the thing is, i write a few cool parts, then give up on it and start something else. Until i can record guitars, i think i'll be doing this for a while. my creativity hasn't been to high lately. i;m a bit bored with writing songs on guitar so I need to learn nrew instruments and hopefully that will help.

Sounds like she made the first fatal error in taking ecstasy, she dehydrated.

Or she was just ROLLING HER FACE OFF. Once, I rolled and went to the local college club/bar with my roomies, and two freshman girls took me into the bathroom :D I wonder if they were on any drugs :idk:

Guys, i've been trying for months, but still haven't quite got it;

How the fuck do I write a good psychedelic rock song>? I know what i want my music to sounds like, but i have no god damn idea how to actually create/write it. i understand i shouldn't be trying to write in a certain style and play what i feel, but this is seriously what I wanna play and idk how. so, help me out? i'm upsessed. how do i write a beatles-esque tune also>?

http://soundcloud.com/holdingtheinfinit ... ated-again

thats me trying to sounds psychedelic esque, how is it? i know, drums suck, and no guitars yet either. no bass either for that matter. but yeah is that in the right direction? FUUUCK songwriting anything besides metal is a bitch.
