Eccentric home decor item: giraffe legs!
Taxidermy giraffe legs! As if to read our minds, as Jen was milling about the house this afternoon asking "where's my antler?" and we're discussing odd and/or morbid things to decorate with, a good friend of ours sends her a link to... giraffe legs! Fuckin' a, man, goddamn giraffe legs. I'd love to find a good deal on a dinosaur skeleton somewhere, but I suspect that of not happening. Dinosaurs are expensive.

The trick is to find your own dinosaur bones. Then, when times get tough, you can sell them to a museum.

There's that, but there's the tiny problem of my area having been underwater at the time, so we're short on dinosaur fossils. Not having the money for a real dinosaur (I did find a couple Protoceratops in situ for about $130k. It goes up from there. This was stumbled upon looking for fake dinosaur parts.) I'd be more than content with a replica dinosaur, but those are still quite expensive.

Hmmm, what about a modern-dinosaur skeleton? I imagine gator or monitor skeletons can't be that expensive.
Also, how do you feel about castings?

Casts are much more expensive than sculpted faux-dinosaur bits. Full skeletons are not cheap, not in the least. Skulls are doable.
Gators or monitor lizards... The real thing could probably be acquired easily, whereas dinosaurs, not so much. The site with the giraffe legs has taxidermy gator heads and feet.

Gators get hunted for their meat, so it makes sense that they would do something with the skulls. These are swamp people, they cannot waste anything.
You know, iguana skeletons probably wouldn't be hard to come across either.

I want a black knee-length alligator skin frock coat. Because I am that trashy. Perhaps when I'm a rock star... Is a decent looking reasonable-size dinosaur skeleton too much to ask for? A bipedal carnivore at six or seven feet tall would be ideal. Preferably one that was reasonably sturdy so we could hang coats and such off of it.

A raptor skeleton would be tits, but there is also their more recent evolutions to consider.
Ostrich skeleton? They make burgers out of them, they probably just discard the bones.

A raptor would be the perfect size for indoors, and the name carries a bit of cachet.
I am currently looking up ostrich skeletons. And other random ex-animals in the process.
