Outright buy the 5150 I've been using, or get a Gary Kramer R729 when they're available (Should be sometime between the end of this month and next month)

The scoop on the 5150 situation:
I had thought that Jeremy owned the 5150 I had been using with Abnormality. It turns out he had just been long-term borrowing it from a friend who quit guitar. Said friend just this last month picked up guitar again, and decided he needs an amp again...but gave Jeremy (or me) the opportunity to buy the amp. If Jeremy buys it, I still get to use it with the band. If I buy it, well, it's mine and I can use it for non-band stuff too [Although I still generally prefer my Mark IV for my own personal sound.] That, and Jeremy seems to be nudging me toward buying it, I think because Jeremy paying for it would fuck up his budget...and I could technically afford it right now. ($500's the asking price for the head.)

The Gary Kramer:
I've found myself quite reliant on having frets beyond #24...but I'd like to occasionally be able to use the neck pickup too. My Ibanez (RG7620), well, it only has 24 frets. The R729's street price is looking to be about $1100. If I went this route I'd sell the Ibanez and my Schecter to make up the difference. The other catch is...it's looking like the production models will only be available in yellow or purple. While I'm totally cool with those colors personally, I don't know what my bandmates would think. They had a hard enough time when I was originally going to get my 36-fretter in white.

Do you have a backup amp? So you don't use the MRak in the band now? $500 not a bad price, and if you don't have a backup head I would go that route, also, if this amp sits better with Abnormality then there is your answer.

No backup amp, and I don't use the Mark IV with the band.

But the thing is, not buying the 5150 doesn't mean I can't use it with the band.

And the guitar may be a limited run, so I don't know if snoozing on that will mean my window of opportunity will close on that.

Really, if it were just about me I'd pick the guitar no question. But I gotta keep the band in mind. And that's where the dilemma comes in.

Fuck the haters, you don't need to just have a black guitar. I fully support the idea of brightly colored guitars in DM, Kaleb and I are thinking about going halves on a Warmoth Jazzmaster in bright ass yellow specifically designed for slamming.

Dude, it would be a Slammaster. Try to argue with that name.

Yeah I guess it could be pretty cool... What pickups and hardware are we thinking?

I endorse this notion of atypical metal guitars. A plain black Ibanez or Jackson with EMG-81s is... pretty tired. Maybe it's just me, but it's really visually uninteresting. It's a functional, utilitarian piece of kit, but it's not much to look at. I suppose there's a reason to make them fluorescent lime green, y'know?

Jazzmasters, Teles, archtops, Firebirds, quirky '60s Italian-made pawnshop guitars and the like... we need more of these.
