this as a second vehicle?? ![]() It's a BMW R1100T. My girlfriend and I are moving in at the start of next summer, and I'm thinking about downsizing on the vehicles I have currently to get some money, and save on tags and insurance. She currently drive a 2003 Ford ZX-2, which isn't much fun to drive, but is reliable and get good gas mileage. We would plan on keeping that for days we needed to get groceries, had to go on a long trip, or if there's shitty weather. We would have the bike for most everything else, just general travel around the city and smaller trips. I think a sport touring bike would best suit our needs, as it would still handle decently, but at the same time could comfortably fit two people. Lawrence also has a really good free bus system, but it only runs during the week. What do you guys recommend as a bike for what we need? It needs to be able two fit two people, cruise at around 80 easily, and be comfortable for trips that are 150 miles max. |

BMW makes great bikes. Also to consider are the higher end Harley touring bikes, just because they sound awesome and have a CD player. |

I hate the way Harley's sound. Plus they're way out of my price range. The more and more I research the bmws, the more I want one.

YESSSS. I know a dood who was restoring one of those. ![]() Anyhow, in general, in the modern traffic era, i would not own a bike where i live, like ever. It is pretty much guaranteeing yourself some hospital time in this region. Too many cars, too many idiots. Maybe if i lived more in the boonies, but even then, it can be rough for folks on bikes. Anyhow, if i were to ride one, it would be something old probably, like a Norton, or a BSA, or a Triumph. ![]() Or... something fucked up, like this:

An older dood i worked with had one just like that, a yellow 750, and totally minty. He bought it brand new when he was a young punk and kept it in amazing condition. He said that after years of typical British motorcycle reliability issues, once he finally broke down and resoldered every single electrical connection in the whole thing, it became quite solid.
