Re: Be My Bitch Thread: Chris, thar be trouble off the port
For some reason I'm reminded a bit of The Jesus And Mary Chain in parts, but I don't know why. I was not expecting the keyboards. The dissonant bit halfway in is properly demented. And I didn't expect the crashing distorted bass heavier bit after it. Actually, that's a sax, not keys, isn't it? The whole thing is pretty schizophrenic; I was not expecting the changes in general. Though if this is any indication, I should. Interesting stuff. Hrmm...
Edit: obviously I am referencing the first one. I'll get back to you on the other two.

Definitely a saxomophone. STLJ is as close to sousaphone rock as i have heard so far. On some of the stuff i suspect he is rocking a baritone even.

Word. I rather enjoyed the both of those and I'mma have to track that stuff down. Those seemed like a noise that's up my alley.
I did listen to the others but I never got back to you, what with being rather busy of late. I appreciated all the brass involved. If there can't be that much sousaphone in rawk, there can at least be some euphonium, y'know?

Being busy is good. At the moment i wish i was a bit more busy, though i am simultaneously somewhat hesitant as far as what i feel comfortable in wishing for.
Dead Rider seemed somewhat Swans-y to me, but with some other elements i thought you might additionally dig on.
As an aside, it seems, as i think on it further, that one of us is going to simply have to fucking suck it up and buy/steal a proper sousaphone and make a record. Or twelve.

Re: Be My Bitch Thread: O'Caster i have modified the Arrange
I can see that. Not the more aggressive aspect of Swans, but the mood/feel and a bit of the voice. I'll have to dig up a record of theirs, methinks.
I've played a trombone before, albeit not particularly well, so I have an idea of how to make brass things produce notes. I've never played a sousaphone- or any sort of tuba- before, so I can imagine the resultant sound would be of a particularly poor quality. I think that might be the desired effect, though.
Were I to take up any large wind instrument seriously, it would be the bassoon. I think it's a beautiful sounding instrument.
