somone at tgp suggested it was some type of Sitori Sonics pedal, but could not identify it. ahhh, further reading, another suggested a custom tapeworm

I have done a good deed today by convincing an old friend she needs to heart St. Vincent.

I also fixed her Macbook which she needs for work; she works from home and that's her only 'puter at the moment.

But she also likes St. Vincent now, which is I think important.

Annie is quite a good guitarist. :nods:

Here's St. Vincent covering Big Black:

Yarr, that thurr is my type of lady. Likes: Disney soundtracks, Big Black, pretty things with exploding ugly guitars stuffed in the middle of them.

This new record is inneresting. I think i like it less than the last one, but that may have as much to do with how much i like the last one.

The new one sounds like she has been hanging around NYC indie bands a bunch(whether or not she has!). Eighties throwbackesque almost dance sounds, a little maybe Grizzly Bear sort of guitar/vox treatment surfaces in kind of isolated random bits, and then a whole sack full of Battles ala their newest record with its bleepbloop carnival disco action.

I also keep hearing chunks of melodies that are familiar in lots of the tracks. Most obvious one was the "You Only Live Twice" main theme, that opens up Surgeon. But there have been a couple others too. The opening verse to Champagne Year, is something too, that i haven't been able to place yet, but that is definitely from something else or is really close to it. Inneresting.

I will have to listen a few more times. It is a solid record, but overall seems a bit more seat-of-the-pants to me than either of the previous. Less planned out, a little less thought into it. Not that that is a bad thing at all. A lot more folks should think a lot less about their rock every now and then, no doubt. It definitely seems like she is writing a lot of the lyrics phonetically this time around too.

Listening again today, i may indeed like the previous record better, but Northern Lights is a fucking sweet song.
