I have about 300 dollars. Good on recording gear ( maybe, maybe not ), amps, guitars, fx, etc. Tell me what I should do with it since I cant think for myself. Any pedals that can help make your amp less fizzy sounding? |

AH! I would like to swap out my greenbacks. I run a marshall 4x12 with greenbacks. No bass, or bass map anymore. |

Greenbacks are cool, and not too fizzy. Best cure for fizz is always going to be moar volume. Also, it is kind of rare that any fizz will be heard in a full mix. On its own, it might seem excessive, but a lot of times, you can't hear it at all in a band mix. ![]() Anyhoo. If it was me, i would want a bass around for doing proper demo shit. The bass amp is not really needed, as you can track through a guitar map, or even run direct and get a good bass sound either way. If you don't want a bass, maybe look into a second cab that will give you some funky sound options, like a 1x15 or a 2x10, or just something like a 1x12 with an EV, or a V30(won't help your fizz issue obviously), or a 75, or an H30 or some other fairly non-greenback speaker.

When I tested the jvm, I played it through the exact same cab but with v30's and evm12l in a x pattern style. The fizz wasnt even there. You sure v30s wont help? |

Well, you could give them a shot, but they are pretty well known for their pretty hefty high midrange spike, and some people's ears read that frequency as a hefty fizz. ![]() That said, there is a reason that they are popular for heavy music. They cut like crazy. But more than likely, a lot of what you were hearing in that cab was the EVs, as they are loud as fuckshit. Heavy and pricey too, though. How old are your greenbacks? It is *really* not common for them to sound fizzy.

Do you crank that thing loud? Seriously, unless they are not broken in, or in case they are indeed blown/cracked, greenbacks should be smoove as shit, and if anything, maaaaybe even a little lacking on the treble end of things.

OH. One other thing, when was the last time you had that cab opened up? It is possible that you have a screw or screws loosening somewhere in there, either on the back, or possible on the speaker mounts or handles. If you haven't already, you might want to open it up, make sure everything is tight, take a look at the speakers and make sure that they are not visibly cracked anywhere, and then close it up all snuglike. I thought i had a blwn speaker for about a week before i realize that my back panel was buzzing like crazy. It only did it on a couple random low notes too. Like normally, amp fizz, will be fizzy all over the notes. Low note specific fizzes, fuzzes, or buzzes, are more likely something else.

Don't they go for a couple hundred each? I wouldn't mind having a Theile ported 1x12 with an EVM in it at all. If you have the cash for it, do it up. They are nice speakers. But. If you aren't running you amp above three now, with the greenbacks, be aware that the EVMs will seem like they are like three times as loud as the greenies. Hell, even the V30s would seem a lot louder. If you do it, keep the greenbacks around, you may find that you miss them once you go to something else. |

I'm going to play the Devil's advocate here and say heroin. Barring heroin, I would probably buy a bass. Actually, I think a while back you mentioned that you already played a bit of bass? Or you could go crazy and just save it. |

I had it open last night. Everything is fine inside. Here is an example of the "fizzy" sound: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9433541 Its not a big deal,. For once am I happy with the sound of an amp straight through, meaning no OD20. I just didnt experience this sound when I tested it out at the dudes house with his cab. ignore most of the clip ex for the 37 second mark with the palm muting.

That sounds pretty fine to me, but i hear what you are saying. I don't think that will be too noticeable in a band mix though, either. It will probably just make the amp sound more pissed off, kind of like what the 5150's "fizz" does when recorded and mixed. How loud did you play it when you tested it out? Moar volume will probably help some. The thing is, if you go EVMs, you will probably wind up running the amp at an even lower volume, which might make the fizz worse, not better. If you ran the amp into a single 1x12 with an EVM, you *might* be able to get away with turning it up a little more. If you can score a Thiele ported 1x12 cab, they can sound fucking awesome with the EVMs. Randomly you can come across someone selling a cab+speaker for less than what you would pay for both normally. Check places like the spam section at TGP, as those doods like to use the EVMs in their Dumble clones.

Im fine with the tone. I love it but I could do without the "fizz". I played it at bedroom volume since it was like 11 pm in an apartment when I tested it out.... The master volume in that clip ws at about 2 1/2 |

EVMs are a sound investment. |

Dev's idea is sound. Cannot go wrong with heroin. Of course, speakers are most excellent, but I would agree with the bass if you don't have one. Of course then you have to want to play bass for your demo's and of course you always have any of us here that will gladly lay down bass tracks for you. |
