I'll kick this one off with one I've mentioned in the past: Tom Waits and Diamanda Galas. Noise, jazz and the darkest blues. :noir: Some piano four hands action going on there would be interesting as well; I'd sit Diamanda on the left, of course, as she rocks the low notes. Though of course there'd have to be some dual piano things as well. Waits' band as backup would be perfectly fine and appropriate given the context. As Tom occasionally works with the Primus guys, they should be on call for when things start to get messy and an awful racket needs to be made. And, of course, a couple very conventionally performed jazz or blues standards just to break people's brains.

Hmm... This is difficult. I suppose in terms of what would please my ears mostly (though with potential for disaster) would be something like a collabo between Brian Wilson circa '67 meets King Crimson circa mid-80's. The complex harmonies of Wilson would sound epic as fuck with KC's polyrhythms and odd meters. Belew and Wilson would make a fine pair of vocalists as well. However, there is also the possibility that it would just be too much shit going in and it could sound like an unfocused racket.

In fact, you should listen to this song, Eric. Completely ignore the title, it has nothing to do with the surf rock-ness of early Beach Boys. This whole album leaves me dizzy, I have no idea how someone managed to string this many memorable, compelling melodies together.

I could see Fripp bringing some focus- dare I say discipline :red: -to that. And it's not as if the Crimson guys haven't variously backed up Bowie, Peter Gabriel, etc. with taste, class and restraint.

This is true. I think it would mostly be a 4/4 affair on piano with the weirdness built on top of that. You've got Belew and Fripp who are both movers of some serious weirdness between Frippertronics and what Belew can do with a vibrato. Levin's probably one of the finest bassists of all time and Bill Bruford is Bill Motherfucking Bruford.

It is essentially, IMO, what might be the finest instrumental four piece "rock" band ever constructed being directed by who may be the finest pop composer to have ever lived. It would have to be a democratic songwriting process that could get hairy.. But the final product would be batshit insane.

I imagine Jerry Cantrell and Steve DiGiorgio could make some cool shit together.
