 Found something on my porch.
Whilst heading out to get contraband from my car I found a box on my porch. It's pretty heavy. I can haz vocoder. I suppose the keyboard should be here tomorrow or the next day.

Re: Found something on my porch.
Ah! Good! I hope the keyboard gets there in one piece too, it being larger and heavier. How did the box look on arrival? Was it beat up at all? How much of a pain in the balls was it to get the thing out? I was going to put a note in, but forgot to until after i had both boxes taped up and i was just like "fuck it, there is no way i am going to undo all of that just to put a note in."

Re: Found something on my porch.
It turned up pretty much completely unharmed. All the foam on the inside was undamaged until I made it my polystyrene bitch. And getting in there wasn't easy, that's for damn sure.

The only thing I recall receiving from Chris was a book, and it was well and truly armored.

Re: Found something on my porch.
Yarr, the last job i had in NYC was shipping, and after seeing a large sampling of what boxes go through to get to or from places(some of the damaged returns were really just amazing), i have had a certain boxing/tape OCD since. Even if the thing is not really breakable at all(like a book - and it was IIRC an already slightly beat up readers copy at that?).

Re: Found something on my porch.
I don't blame you. 'S why I use the USPS if at all possible as I find them the least likely to damage whatever I'm sending. I've had friends and family who've worked for the postal service and friends who've worked for private shipping concerns and I know which I trust more not to break things. I have heard horror stories about how some of the packages are treated.
When I sold my Mark IV, one of the knobs was sheared off in shipping! (UPS.) Apparently a prior owner's tech had replaced a pot with one with a plastic shaft. A friend of mine had one of his ESPs f'd up- and it was in a hard case! Overpackaging is preferable when possible. No airspace, lots of padding, cover everything with packing tape.
...I'm also reminded I should pass that one on to a friend who wants to read it.

I received the T&A fuzz of wonder and the packing was phenomenal. There's pics of the packing in the thread for it. The man knows how to pack shit.
Also, I too worked in a packing/shipping place at one time in my life.

Re: Found something on my porch.
The keyboard hath arrived in equally fine shape. And it was wrapped even more redonkulously than the vocoder.

Re: Found something on my porch.
Swell! Yarr, i tried to extra pad its ends and have no less than two walls of cardboard on its exterior. From what i have heard, USPS can be cocks about paying up, if they actually break something, even when insured, so i figured the easiest thing to do would be to try to avoid it getting effed in the a by them in the first place.
I am very glad that both bits made it there well.

Also, I wish I could steal Chris' handwriting. Shit is like a mixture of stylized legibility and near disaster.

Re: Found something on my porch.
There's a reason a few of those are kicking around on here. Along with things like joey's Alesis Micron and my Novation. It's a fun flavor of noisemaker for sure. A very different animal than a sample-based workstation sort of synth. I used to have a rackmount MS2000 and Chris from my band has a DW-8000 which cover a fair bit of the same ground; the synth engine on the MicroKorg is essentially an MS2000. (I used to put it in my guitar rack, 'cause I'm an enormous asshole like that. )
